I thought UltraPack 2.01 came with the SilverPlate B29?

Do a QUICK MISSION and make sure it is not already listed as a plane you can fly before you try and DL and install it!

As for HSFX 4.1 I know it comes with the SilverPlate B29..

Thus no need to DL and install it..

Bombs Away Wrote:Whats the differnece between ultrapack and HSFX?
The difference between HSFX MOD PACK vs. the UltraPack MOD PACK..

You can think of HSFX as the minimum mod pack and UltraPack as the maximum mod pack..

By maximum I mean nearly every mod that was aval at that time was included, read no real ryme or reason or standard, just stick it in there and re-packaged ALL those individual mods into one of the standard IL-2 SFS file format, the Prego Italian Sauces aproach to mods - it's in there.. Wink

By minimum I mean a group of mod makers sat down and decided what where the best and or most popular mods most, if not everyone, would have to have. And they did extensive testing to ensure one mod did not conflict with another mond. Once the set of mods was agreed upon and tested they re-packaged those individual mods into one of the standard IL-2 SFS file format..

The purpose for re-packaging individual mods into a SFS file is to speed up the game load/start times..

In that each individual mod you add will cause the game to take longer to load/start..

You can download and add additional mods to HSFX and UltrPack..

In that there are allways new mods comming out all the time so you need that option..

But those mods are typically not in the SFS file format and therefore will cause you game to load/start slower..

So at this point your probably thinking it is a no brainier..

Use UltraPack because it contains more mods, right?

Well there is a down side to that..

In that once you put a mod into the SFS file format it is very hard if not imposable to remove them!

Where as with the mods you download and install yourself you can turn the on and off at will..

A perfect example of that was the highly detailed P-51 and P47 cockpits by Freddy..

HSFX decided to NOT include it in thier MOD PACK thus giving the user the option to DL and install it seperatly..

Where as UltraPack decided to include it in thier MOD PACK thus making the decision for the user..

For folks with UltraPack and a really good PC there was no problem..

But for those folks UltraPack and older PCs with older video cards the new highly detailed cockpits caused a big FPS hit (read slide show)..

And since they were part of UltraPacks SFS files you could not disable them like you could a mod that you downloaded and installed yourself..

I think the latest version of UltraPack removed those highly detailed cockpits and made them a separate download for the user to install..

Just like HSFX did from the start..

That is just one example of why it is not allays a good thing to include the kitchen sink into a MOD PACK!

IMHO things like individual mods beyond the min set are better left to the end user to try out and than decide if he wants to use/keep them or not..

So if your the type of person that is not good an installing mods..

And by that I mean you don’t know how to navigate to the installation of your game directory let alone add files to it, than your probably better off using UltraPack and just hope that you like all the mods they decided to put into it..

But if you do know how to find the installation of your game on your hard drive and you know how to unzip files and your the type that likes to pick and choose the mods you want to use, than I would recommend you use HSFX.

Not sure what you mean by links to the ultrapacks/mods that you need before you can get ultrapack v2.01?

HSFX and UltraPack are both a MOD PACK

By MOD PACK I mean a package that includes an assortment of mods..

So you don't need to DL any mods before you get UltraPack or HSFX..

Just DL HSFX or UltraPack..

AFTER you install HSFX or UltraPack you can DL and add more 'individual' mods if you like..

Here is a link to the HSFX DL page

Here is a link to the UltraPack DL page

hope that helps!

Yes..

Here is what I do/did..

1) I uninstalled IL2
2) Installed a clean copy of IL2
3) Made a file copy of the IL2 game directory
4) Install the mod pack of your choice

The purpose of step 3 is so I never have to repeate steps 1 and 2, all I have to do now if something goes totally wrong is del the current IL2 game dir and copy over my copy of it..

Just make sure you save your conf.ini file and your \Users folder before you do step 1, in that those two files contain your game settings and joystick settings

Yes both HSFX and UltraPack are very easy to install! They both come with an install program all you have to know is where your game is installed on your HD so you can point the install program to it

Bombs Away Wrote:also before i put on ultrapack v2.01 can you tell me what other mods or ultrapacks i need?
None

both HSFX and UltraPack include all the 'mods' you need to fly the un-flyable planes and more

For that you will have to do a little reading at those links..

Sometimes they have an update that will update say UltraPack 2.0 to 2.01..

And sometimes they require you to DL the whole thing..

Just do little reading and it should be clear as to what you have to do..

On that note I am 99% sure both HSFX and UltraPack provide both..

Both as in if you want to DL the whole things (say UP 2.01) or just an update from UP 2.0 to UP 2.01

Bombs Away Wrote:P.S. do you have it?
I have both.. But I don't use the UltraPack for anything but Flight Model testing.. Which is another story in and of itself.. As it turns out UltraPack took some of the P-51 mods from HSFX and altered the Flight Models such that the accuracy of the flight models performance was reduced (read less real), Which is just another reason I personally prefer HSFX over UltraPack, Your milage may varry! Hello,

The only reason why I allowed all the writing about HSFX and UltraPack is because Bombs Away will need to get one or the other in order to have the B-29 Silver Plate, A-Bombs, and the unflyable planes in one mod pack.

Normally I would be on guys about major off-topic wandering in a good thread, but things happened to actually be relevant for the most part.

That being said, Bombs Away, I have to say that you really can't go wrong with HSFX or UltraPack for what you want and are requesting.

i think you mean go back to normal mode? well i know that the Mod enabler has a option to go back to 4.09 just in case you want to play an online game that doesn't allow mods or just feel like going back to the original and when you want mods you can turn them back on, another good thing is that you can save a profile so that you instantly turn on the mods you want

Well the TU-4 is the russian copy of the B-29..

And when I say copy I mean they captured two B-29s dissasembled them and coppied them..

So much so that the rudder pedels in the TU-4 even said Boeing on them like they did in the B-29

The down side to the SAS TU-4 is that they combined it with a regual B-29, and as most of us know the Silver Plate version of the B-29 was a reduced weight version of the B-29 that removed all the gunner positions cept the rear gunner position, even the blisters on the side were removed, So the SAS combo version is not very accurate wrt being a late war atomic bomber, it would have been easier to use the silverplate and put a different skin on it IMHO

The Soviet Union used the metric system, thus 1/16th inch (1.6 mm) thick sheet aluminum and proper rivet lengths were unavailable. The corresponding metric-gauge metal was thicker; as a result, the Tu-4 weighed about 3,100 lb (1,400 kg) more than the B-29, with a corresponding decrease in range and payload.
talk about a knock-off
Reply

All the more reason why a fully loaded TU-4 could not be an atomic bomber like the B-29 SilverPlate.. At least not a long range one! Wink Which is why the combo SAS version makes no real since IMHO
