three lovely pics of two Packard Merlin engined P-40's... (originals planes by Karaya & Anto, *super job by the way, guys!* modified 'back' to original wing configuration by me to eliminate the stretch places/holes. sorry, don't know who did the nice paint skins...but the map is the lovely little HB_Atolls map available here on AAA. Please excuse the very poor picture quality...not an attempt to show a pretty picture, but rather to highlight two 'very' nice aircraft.)

well, you can get them. Big Grin

they are fine planes. and available at the SAS site (link is in the Merlin engined P40 thread.)

and after installation, if you want to use 'my' wing re-conversion (to replace Bee's that they used which sometimes causes some 3D model visibility problems) you can fix that yourself if you know hier.him file work and or you can download and use the hier.him file replacements i extracted from the stock planes from my site here:

http://maturevolunteergroup.freeforums.o....php?id=44

i don't mind the original 'stock' game wing shapes (use to them by now, lol)...and would rather have them than the invisibility problems on the new F and L. but that's just me. so that's why i re-converted them for my own use...but everyone is welcome to use them if they please. or they can stick with the ones that came with the planes (Bee's edited version.) everybody's personal choice.

again...all credit for everything goes to Karaya and group. a superb job on these new planes. they perform splendidly! and hopefully they'll have more wonderful suprises for us very soon! (sure would like a K and N model!) Big Grin

The "invisibily" problem can be fixed by changing the LOD distance values in the P-40F and P-40L per the following information by Birdman:

The engine and CF disappear because the LOD transition values are way too close. I opened the .msh files with notepad and found in Engine1 (all damage levels):
[LOD]
25
25
50
150

in CF (only D0):
[LOD]
25
125
150
200
200

I edited these values and now my engines don't disappear anymore:

for Engine1:
[LOD]
50
100
500
1200

for CF:
[LOD]
50
100
200
500
1200

thanks, Panama Red,,,but that's not the invisibility problem i was referring to. i was referring to the 'gaps' that show where Bee's edited hier.him file actually straighted out the wings. the straightening created 'stretched' places or places where the wings won't line up with the rest of the fuselage and allows holes, gaps or cracks to show. by re-converting the hier.him files back to the originals (as i did in my files,) it returns the wings original shape/position, and stops those gaps.

i have no problem with the original wing shape...it may not be exactly correct, but it's what i'm used to since the P-40's inclusion into the game...and after all, all the 'other' P-40 versions have the same thing... so not a big deal for me to go 'back' to the original wing contour/angle. others may feel different though and prefer to use the hier.him files that come with the new F and L...ie, Bee's edited files. either way, the new F and L are super nice planes and are a fine addition to the game.

the merlins rock!

as a follow up:

Bee's fixed wings showing the gap.

wings after using my reconverted files showing old 'stock' wing but NO gaps.

no big deal either way...both are fine, i just prefer the slightly incorrect wing angle (which all stock P40's have anyway) over the gaps in the new ones. but that's just me. and my files (download link in post above) puts them back like the stock ones. i thought the gap might bother other folks too...thus the link to share them.

again, either way is fine. just depends on what you like.

i'm not seeing any LOD problems (yet) though. if it shows up i'll edit the mesh as you suggested.

Glad you guys like them!

I might, if time permits, try my hands at a P-40N, but cant promise anything at this point.

i can't say enough good things about them...hopefully a proper fix for the gaps can one day be figured out and i can re-reconvert my hier files.

also, would love to see the drop tanks moved up somehow or even better a proper droptank rack made...i was looking at old pictures of my P-40s and most of their drop tank racks look near identical to the in game bomb racks... would it somehow be possible to use those bomb racks AS THE DROPTANK racks?

again, great job! and oh boy an N? Confusedhock:

PS these planes 'fly' as good as they look!
