[DOWNLOAD] Berlin 1943 - Campaign for the Bf-110G4
#1

"BERLIN 1943" is a semi-historical, 8-mission static campaign, set in November and December that year, and portraying the events when RAF Bomber Command opened its big Offensive against Berlin. You are a German Night Fighter pilot, flying the Messerschmitt Bf-110G4 and participating in the defense of the capital. (In one mission you will fly the FW-190A5.)

The dates, weather and general outlines of the specific raids tries to follow history, as close as is possible within the limits of the game engine. All the historical info about the raids, losses, their effects etc, are historically correct.

You can download it here: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php? ... ils&id=435

A variant of this campaign, where you get to fly the the Junkers Ju-88C heavy fighter instead, will soon be posted.

Included in this campaign is 9 skins. A special thanks to Max the Hitman who skinned the Ju-88C on my request! (A full list of credits can be found in the download.)

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: The British bombing campaign on Berlin lasted from November 1943 to March 1944. The campaign was launched by Arthur "Bomber" Harris, AOC of RAF Bomber Command in November 1943. Encouraged by the recent success in bombing Hamburg - an operation which had caused a massive loss of civilian life - Harris believed this could be the blow which broke German resistance: "It will cost us between 400 and 500 aircraft. It will cost Germany the war." By this time he could deploy over 800 long-range bombers on any given night. Between November 1943 and March 1944 Bomber Command made 16 massed attacks on Berlin.

It is generally accepted that the Battle of Berlin was a failure for the RAF as it was not the knockout blow that Harris had predicted and during the battle, the RAF lost 1,047 bombers, with a further 1,682 damaged, and well over 7,000 aircrew. Despite the devastation and human loss they caused, however, these raids failed to achieve their objectives. German civilian morale did not break, the city's defences and essential services were maintained, and war production in greater Berlin did not fall: in fact German war production continued to rise until the end of 1944. Area bombing consistently failed to meet its stated objective, which was to win the war by bombing Germany until its economy and civilian morale collapsed.

Excellent, very impressive! just by coincidence i,ve just finnished reading Len Dieghtons 'Bomber' (for the third time) and its put me right in the mood for this campaign.
Thanks very much Poltava you've made my day and i'm already into the second mission, i like the effects and it gives the impression of heavy carpet bombing rather than
precision bombing of a specific target. One minor recommendation, if you are using a mod pack where you can easily access the load ini for the Berlin map... set the Decline to 5
and it eliminates the yellow glow on the horizon. If you like going up after bombers then i recommend this highly.

As much as I'm tempted to try this, knowing Poltava's excellent quality campaigns, I may hold out until there's a radar implemented with the next TD patch... and hopefully a Lancaster! Big Grin

I will back ziggy's suggestion - the horizon glow from the setting sun is very annoying, unless you're playing on a flat map in the middle of the summer (and even then it's exaggerated) - could you remove it, if possible?

This is great, thank you. Looking forward to the Ju88c6 missions. Would it be posable to make a He219 version too.

Thank you again.

I recommend either UP2.0 or HSFX4.1. It could work on less, but using one of these two will almost gurantee you a fully functional campaign!

Thanks for the appreciation!

Tigerten!

I have looked into the He-219 thing, and the problem is that the He-219 doesn't work in FMB. So until we get a new version (it's a frankenplane BTW) a He-219 version of this campaign will have to wait... Sad

Thanks!

That's a VERY nice picture you got there! Is it possible to download it somewhere, in a bigger resolution? It would make a superb start-up screen and desktop background!

Dietz, are those your paintings? If so, wow! Some of them have been floating around the net as avatars or signatures, and they're pretty famous - not to mention outstanding! I would really like to see the picture with the 110's as a background for Poltava's campaign. For some reason, I think that having a picture as a campaign background works best compared to a photograph or a screenshot. Big Grin
