The searching applet for this forum is horrible, you need to know the EXACT word you're looking for. It's usually easier to look for it in the appropriate subforums "by hand". For example, searching for
"map_c.tga"
gives you the same as
map_c.tga
which means all kinds of posts NOT containing anything about map_c.tga but everything about maps... which, of course, are quite a lot of extremely annoying and useless hits.

Back to topic:
Has anyone yet attempted to create new (realistic) skins for the V2 rocket objects? The one and only, rather ugly camo skin used in the game looks rather unlike the V-2s I see in my book about Peenem

Thats an odd looking color scheme for a rocket that is virtually defenseless to an air raid. maybe they used that scheme during tests so they could better see it from the ground.

My main goal with these textures is to somehow figure a way to get a lighter object load, and the texture sizes have something to do with this.

I also noticed that most of the mat files are set up to be visible at a max of 10000, or 10km, which is fine for most but if you are bombing from 6000m, you aren't going to see your target until the moment you should be dropping bombs.

The problem with increasing the mat detail to include further visibility is that it also increases system load. I was looking to reduce texture sizes at distances over 5km, since there is really no need to see a crack in the concrete from that distance anyway.

So far, i've only been able to produce errors. The game does much of this rendering with the graphics settings of your computer, but what gets me is how an object, no matter how remote or far away can reduce frame rate. Lowering object detail in the settings seems to help a lot, but then aircraft textures are effected.

something tells me if the textures sizes can be reduced then maybe there is a way to lower object detail with out effecting aircraft detail.

Not sure if anyone has tried this before.

I looked it up again in my book about Peenem

The camo of the V-2 rocket in IL-2 is historically accurate and represents the operational version of the rocket, not the test version. The texture was done according to the official German template:
