Hi I am really new to this game and wanted to try the hsfx mod pack as everyone raves about it.
I installed il2 1946 from my original disc.
I patched it to v.08 and checked the installation.
I patched to V.09 and checked the installation.
I then made copies and put them in folders on my desktop in case I messed up.
I downloaded the 4.0 history mod pack and installed it, I didnt know if the game was useable at this point so I just checked the folder...no fb exe icon???
I downloaded the hsfx 4.1 file and installed it
I got success messages after the instal, checked the folder....no fb exe icon...
Am I doing something wrong or does the game launch differently?

When you install the 4.09m all worked .
Then when you install the HSFX-V4.0 make sure the install
GOES to the correct game path or folder.
the same goes for the HSXF-V4.1. Watch it close.

DO as Skyomish says. I tried three times in all and it was to do with the directory it was pointing too. With each install of HSFX, make sure you point to the IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 as the last line in the selected folder.

Mine is C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.

What I ended up with the first time was a mess and nothing launched except for Vanilla 4.09. Got it sorted now and it was worth the time to get there IMHO

I did make sure both of them went to the correct path. I now have information that says it will not work in Vista unless you instal into a different directory. I will uninstall the files and start again to see if that works. Once I have a version V.09 I take it I can patch with the up 2.0 directly? I dont have to patch with earlier versions first, is this correct? Jim.

Jim, your first post relates to HSFX 4.0 /4.1 In this last post you refer to UP 2.0

In either way, you would need to have the series updated to 4.09. If you choose HSFX, then install HSFX v4.0, then HSFX v4.1 There is also a 4.1 patch file too after the other two are completed.

If you choose UP , it will depend on what you have downloaded. If you have UPv1.8, then the patch to UPv2.0 is all you will need. If you have downloaded the UPv2.0 full install, then just run that after your IL2 version is fully patched to 4.09.

Hi, Yes thanks for that. I got confused as I would really like both versions to try to see which I prefer or be able to switch for hyperlobby servers. I got over the first hurdle, as soon as I installed the game to a different folder and patched it with UP.2.0 i worked perfectly. I am now trying to instal again to a different folder and patch with HSFX.By the way what is the patch for??? I didnt notice it anywhere.Thanks for the help. Jim.

Not sure, something about skins etc, I'll have to dig around to find it. I have three Unified installs working and one HSFX and I am slowly seeing that I use the UI's less and less in comparison. As for the UP install, I had 1.8 version and it worked fine to begin with, but then I had some issues, so i dumped it in favor of HSFX. No regrets so far, but cannot say much on the UP 2.0. Might do the same and have another install of the lot in a different folder and see what it is like.

Whatever you do, it is great fun, so enjoy it whatever you fly / play.

Hi jamesdean007, got to this link and it will explain what the patch does. Not sure if it is necessary, but I put it on and had no ill effects. If you want it, there is a download link in the first post too.
