questions about hsfx...
#1

I was wondering about a few things regarding hsfx 4.0 and maybe someone can help...

1. I JUST got shippack 2 to work....can I still use hsfx with it and other MODS or will I have to reinstall everything I currently have?

2. What exactly are the benefits of using hsfx over my new U.I 1.2 install?

3. If I'm correct, can you install the hsfx mod OVER U.I 1.2 or will I have to redo my install of Il2?

Sorry if these answers lie right in front of me...I usually try to search for my own answers but I am kinda lost in the Il2 world right now. I haven't messed with the game in some time and all of this is new to me! Thanks for any answers to the above questions! If at least soemone can answer my question about shippack 2 compatibilty that would be great! Also, the website where you download hsfx said that direct to drive users will have to download some sort of patch....But only from ubisoft.com, right? I purchased mine from steam and it was already equipped with the official patch....Do I still need the other one it calls for? Thanks guys!

Hello, Wongsing

The question by Skyomish-I'm glad he asked-is relevant in this way. Online servers accept only certain IL-2 versions. Only a specific mod pack is allowed for a certain server, generally. Offline modders can do almost anything they want as far as mod collecting and flying.

I suggestion what I think a guy should do based on how much mods collecting a person wants to do. If you feel that you want to do much flying and trying of mods, then I suggest keeping your UI 1.2 as a resource, then trying UltraPack 2.0. The more serious fans of IL-2 modding are trying and picking mods from different mod packs and individual releases to put in the offline IL-2 which they use for flying. Some of the most serious IL-2 fans are sticking with one mod pack and building on it.

UI 1.2 is far larger than HSFX 4.0, or even 4.1 If you think that you only want a few new mods in the future, then I recommend keeping your UI 1.2 for flying.

Since you are here asking about it, I feel you could get hooked on the UltraPack downloads. I tend to try everything because it is a big adventure for me and loads of fun. If that sounds like you, then keep UI 1.2 as a resource for future picking of individual mods-some of which changed in the UltraPack-then get the UltraPack 2.0

UI 1.2 is not directly compatible with any HSFX. UltraPack 2.0 includes the UI 1.2 content with some changes that some people don't like-another reason to keep the original UI 1.2

Though it is possible to find a way to make any mod fit into any mod pack, some of them require an expert level. This is why both the UI 1.2 and the UltraPack way have a prescribed way to best apply new mods to your collection. Using the prescribed way becomes very easy once you learn it. The UI 1.2 and UltraPack are in some ways similar in their approach to this and in some ways different. As you read the instructions at AAA and the UltraPack websites, you will begin to understand it. Take it step by step. Do some more research, then decide on a genereal plan.

Oh, by the way, during the whole process, keep a clean copy of the stock IL-2 and anything else copied which you want to keep. This is, of course, having backups in case something goes wrong.

My final advice is to stay positive as you are and make time for fun flying, even when the mods work is large.

Have fun with all the mods!
