A truly top quality game.

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum and IL2 to be honest.
I only just recently got IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 around 3 days ago and I can't stop playing it, I even got a joystick on the 2nd day of owning IL2. I've looked into getting IL2 for years but could never find a copy when I remembered I wanted it so I finally bought a copy on steam (which works fine with any mod I've used so far so idk why people are against the download-able version).
Best $40 AU I've ever spent and that includes the joystick =D.

Anywho what I mainly made this post for was to share with everyone an image I made using a screen shot from a DGEN mission I was on. I was flying along and then saw this view and just couldn't resist taking a screeny, so here it is!

I did edit it a bit to get rid of Speed and Altitude counters and I also made the planes colours more vibrant. I hope you like it!

Only thing I regret is not knowing more about older fighter planes so I could readily name the one in the picture =/.
Oh well now is always a good time to learn I guess, hopefully in a month or two I will be a lot more savvy with all this stuff.

Bye and thanks for reading!
P.S. Please excuse any bad wording and what not I'm a bit tired =/.

Like Mr. Admiral said, that is a Bf-109. It lacks the bubble-like ammo containers on the nose so it must be a Bf-109 F or a G2. I'd say G2, because I dunno if that particular default skin is available for the F versions. And new players usually choose the G2 Big Grin

Welcome to the world of the world's best flight sim. Enjoy your stay and check KG64_Cnopicilin's signature for safety instructions.

Don't hesitate to ask, most people here will be glad to help you with problems.

One thing you should do is, after flying for some time, check out the Wikipedia articles about some planes that you find most suitable for yourself. And aviation literature is very interesting and even helpful in some situations!

Have fun!

I too must have passed up buying Sturmovik for some 5 or 6 years before finally buying a (discount) copy, mainly out of boredom and because some euros were burning a hole in my pocket. And have also been hooked since, almost 2 years ago.

One thing to keep in mind since you have the downloaded stream version. I've read a number of posts in which members here have had problems getting mod packs like UltraPack2.0 to work, because they did not install from a CD.

There is a mod that fixes any problems with updating a stream version of the game, so it is not really anything to worry about. But it is a good idea to keep it in mind and perhaps download that particular mod so you have it handy should you start upgrading to newer versions.

Looks like a G model to me......For sure, and I dont think we have heard the last from this pilot.....Nice pic. If you make tracks or mini movies of your missions you can go back and take nice screens to keep for future desktop wallpapers. Oh and do change those settings that the others have posted here, it makes the game even more breath taking....Cheers and nice pic.

Hey everyone thanks for you replies.
HolyGrail I can't put it on OpenGL because that causes the game to crash randomly half way through most mission =/.
If there is such a thing as OpenGL drivers I've had no luck finding them for my HD4850.

I much prefer playing without the games crashing every mission then having better graphics for the short ammount of time the games run, much as it grieves me. =(

Oh I did through my graphics card though it doesn't seem to have worked. AA is on 16x time in fact though the game seems to have bypassed it... =/.

I've also set a lot of the settings in config.ini to maximum and that doesn't seem to work all the time either.

There should be an option in your graphics for Antialising that says "over-ride any application settings"...select that one

Indeed I did =/. I'm now going to try nHancer which was suggested in the great tech guide Fireskull made on these forums.
I'm sure I'll get it all working great in a few days of testing.

Thanks for trying to help though. This would have to be the friendliest forum I have ever seen =D.

EDIT: What I failed to realize is nHancer is for NVIDIA lol.

Hey everyone sorry for the double post but since everyone has opened my eyes to how good the game can look I have done a lot of testing and looking around and managed to get my game to look like this!

sure its not the best area to take a screeny but it will have to do for now.
I'm also flying one of my favorite Planes so far in this one.

So tell me what you think of my new settings! can they get much better?

also sorry if I broke any rules by double posting or putting such large image in my post, I've never been one to remember the rules to well though I stick by them when I do

Yay! Also I discovered why some people may hate the steam version though If you knew this you wouldn't.

Note: I took both of those separately at 1920x1200 but made them smaller for this image so it would fit on this page.

XD that's ridiculous.

EDIT: Oh just in case where it says "Run from EXE" I mean the il2fb.exe which would be located somewhere like this:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\il 2 sturmovik 1946\il2fb.exe
