I really like the fact that this thing ran on diesel fuel.

As far as I know, only the high flying recons used diesel oil for fuel. These were the Ju86P and Ju86R series. The R was the ultimate very long wingspaned aircraft. Two men only as a crew in the hermetically closed cabin. One 7,92mm MG17 or MG15 remote controlled machine gun in the tail, just like a wasp's sting. The R series used the Junkers Jumo 205 two stroke diesel engines! Actual engie subtypes were 207 and 208, depending on the subtype of the aircraft.

How could you treat like that some poor old defensless airplane! When I fly my Lightning (my favorite aircraft anyway ) I take some 109s, 190s and zeros to the dancefloor! That's exciting! Some hot tempered dogfight, that's where I love to get into with my Lightning!

I'm happy to find another one who loves Lightnings!

I wouldn't be surprised if the U-2 has some ideas from this plane. It appears that the Ju-86 looks like the cross between a Ju-52 and a Ju-88 then had a severe case of gas. Course, it was pressurized. And high flying aircraft do not have to be fast, just have the ability to have a lot of lift. The U-2 is like this in that it flies slow landing or taking off(they chase it with a Kia sedan when it lands)
