Getting new OS; what to back up from IL2?
#1

Hi all,

I'll be updating my pc with Windows 7 64bit soon, coming from Vista 32bit (so fresh install). I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my campaign progress after I reinstall the game and if so, how do I do it? Do I simply copy the IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/missions/ and Sturmovik 1946/missions/users folders onto my IL2 install?

I think I should also backup the following:

- config.ini
- IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Files\maps folder
- IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\PaintSchemes\Skins folder

Is there anything else I forget that I should backup and can I simply transfer all of these after I reinstall my IL2 game, 4.09M and UP2.0 which I'm running now?

Thanks!

Just copy your entire (modded) IL2-1946 to an external hard disk. You will only have to make a new shortcut for il2fb.exe and il2set.exe. Saves you a lot of installs... You can either play it running the external hard disk or you can copy it back from external harddisk.

Greetz.

Thanks Hawker 17. So it's no problem that I'll be going from 32 to 64 bit windows in this case?

I am going through the same thing. I got Win7 64bit on my rig this weekend. I started to install IL2 from scratch last night. I should have just transferred a copy.
Hint! I keep two copies of IL2 on hand. This way if something is lost, I can retrieve it. Keep us posted as to how things go with your install.
