Saitek ST290Pro question (making a loop)
#1

I am having the following issue. In almost every aircraft i fly while making a loop, i have to put a little left elevator (to keep the wings level) . Is it due to the torque or could it be my joystick? I calibrated it already and in configuration/gamecontrollers it works well in all directions.

I'd like to know if somebody has the same issue or maybe... a tip to make a good loop without the input of left elevator?

Your opinions please.

Thanks.

I think you mean left rudder/ailerons...you can't control the elevator flaps independently to my knowledge.

As for your issue, it's because of torque and because you are approaching the stall speed. You have to compensate with rudder motion in the appropriate direction in order to avoid stalling (do NOT use ailerons, they only make it worse). I might suggest pulling your throttle pack as you approach the peak of the loop if you aren't already, and then opening it up on the way down.

A good way to remember elevator and aelerons is to think an elevator. It goes up and down.

Stupid me Sad ... what i meant, i have to input left aileron, because the aircraft pulls to the right. I also tried to give some rudder, but can't get the feeling for it (twist grip).

When i enter a loop and pull the stick down, the aircraft immediately pulls to the right, and i have to correct it all the way with left aileron (not only at the top of the loop).

Thanks again! Big Grin

With a P-38 or jet it doesn't happen. Tongue So it's torque and not my joystick. Could anybody explain to me how to use rudder while making a loop?

I had one of those sticks it went bad and had a dead spot in it and plane pulled to the left you can try trimming you plane and see if that helps

see what keys u have set for alieron and elevator trim also rudder 2, if you get into tweekn the trims you have to adjust as you climb reseting them so often or try to get to a crusiing alt and set it n leave it

GenSwat is correct. I will add a few things.

Although the discussion is not PC Tech in the way it evolved, I see how you would ask about the stick. You can adjust your hotas controls to make the transitions of input smoother, which makes it easier. You could use the program that comes with your stick or get an aftermarket program to assist you with this. Sorry, I do not use Saitek or after market helps, so I do not know the details.

However, having a greater distance of input in the stick to get output control surface movement helps to make smoother transitions than the less forgiving shorter settings. One of the reasons why the WW2 pilots had to use floor pedals and a floor mounted stick was to achieve the longer input motions for finer control. There are a few programs which diplay data on the screen to compare these settings with your control surface results.

Use trim very sparingly. Not much is needed. All three input axis should be set for trim in your Controls settings within IL-2.

After getting a couple hundred hours flight time, your response will become automatic to ever changing circumstances. Hence, the saying " The pilot must become one with his aeroplane. "

If you have stuttering in the simulation, then you must do everything that you can to manage your computer and IL-2 for optimization. The decrease in stuttering directly improves your joystick input responses, of course.

I hope that I helped.

Moved to general discussion.

If you're flying German, it's good to note that you can't fly hands-off; the only control surface you can trim is the elevator.

Good point, Axial.

If a guy wants to have several trim settings for various aircraft, then he could make copies of the Controls file in IL-2, accordingly. About two years ago when I was into trim very heavy, I had one for Russian fighter, one for German, and one for American. I simply would drag - literally swap - the Controls files. A couple files would be on my PC Desktop screen ready to be swapped. It only takes a few seconds and worth setting them for the convenience.

Now, I would only set trim for level bombing. Fighters no longer make any difference for me. My skills and patience have developed to the amount that I can fly any fighter in any combat maneuver. This is where you want to be. I knew that I had reached an amount of proficiency when I could consistantly pull a P-39N1 out a flat spin of either direction and save the plane.

Not only practicing loop, Immelmann, spit-S, and other major maneuver - try upside down banking, upside down scissors, upside down loops, inverted Immelmanns, and inverted Split-Ss. Become accustomed to flying any aeroplane in any maneuver. After a while, trim will become unnecessary except for level bombing.

Thanks for all your input, opinions and info, very helpful! The problem isn't i can't pull loops. Basically when i fly online some friends just can't beat my loops... (especially when escaping). When i fly straight, full throttle and trim aileron and after that pull a loop, the aircraft still has the tendency to go the right. I still have to put a little left aileron while pulling a loop. When i saw a video from onboard footage of a dual seater spitfire the stick remains pretty in the centre. My joystick functions well, i checked it in gamecontrollers and ingame too. When i fly a P38 i don't have to give left aileron while pulling a loop.

So basically i'm the only one who has to give left aileron while making a loop in every single engine aircraft? :???:
