Making a MOD by copying files from a Combat flight sim
#1

Hi there

Is there a way to make a mod by copying files from another combat flight sim e.g. Rise of Flight, CFS3 or Battle of Britain II and I want a Tutorial of How to make a mod by copying files from another combat flight sim. If you are interest, go to this topic now and reply please.

Thanks

If it was that easy then I think those bright guys in this field would have discovered it by now. This approach can help with the basic model, but the meshes are often too detailed to be accepted by the game engine (or too simple to be of any use). Remember the basic model is only one of over 50 different meshes you need to create........ the levels of detail, collision, shadow, damage, etc for each piece.... and that is just the start.

Just look at the number of great models that never get beyond first base, and how long it takes for those that do.

There is no easy way to do this stuff, but if you want to try it then there are some really great guys here who will help.

It is only when you try to do this for yourself that you begin to genuinely appreciate the guys who do this for the community ... for free

actually, it can be done. and has been. but it was found that the effort wasn't worth it... though as mentioned, it can still save time with the basic model over starting from scratch. still, even then most prefer to do their own from the ground up so that they are familar with it from beginning to end.

it's a good thought, however.

even if not really practical.

I think this has been covered before gents.. Lets not go back down that road.
Imagine the makers of RoF if they discovered that all their hard work had been simply imported into IL2?

Add planes from FSX to CFS and then you'll be flying third reich skies with atomic bomber 747.

Not to raise the issue but what about creating a program that would automatize some of the pain associated with creatng 3D models in Il-2? For example theis utility would offer different "filters" or modules that would be pretty much standard (shadows, tileset, whatever) and then at the end the program would convert the final model so that it can be implemented directly into the Il-2 game engine...It would make the Il-2 3D modeller life much simpler...Just like 3rd party tools automatize a lot of processes (Adobe Photoshop is one: imagine having to appl filters manually or not using built-in functions!)

Can you see the picture? Basically the program would do the most complicated work, and then the designer would focus on the design only...Some things would be calculated automatically and there would be friendly visual interfaces specific to Il-2 3D modelling....

That's the trend today: simplygying and enabling Mr Anybody to create his 3D models without grabbing one's hair....

I believe today that is is extremely long and complicated to it in a manual way because the main objective of IL-2 is to be played, not necesarily to be modded....

To me that's the real and historical purpose of any program: to automatize a lot of processes so that users can focus on the most important things...

That's a good idea, but it would require really much work, time and effort. It could also end us up seeing every single 3D plane downloaded from the internet being transformed into an Il-2 flyable and the quality to drop significally. The quality is high nowadays because the planes are hard to do, which is worth doing is worth overdoing like mythbusters like to say. The idea is not bad at all...

It would be completely stupid to create a tool to allow planes to be added to all different sims, because the polys wouldn't match, and if they did it'd too low for some sims.

Hi there

Please I need you help, I did a test if it work by downloading some aircraft for another combat flight sim and I had copyed them into the program files of IL2 1946, but when I played the game the planes were not listed. So could you help me by doing a Tutorial of making a MOD by copying files from a Combat flight sim?

Thanks

Well , it seems that philip.ed thinks it is "completely stupid"...Always nice to hear what people think...Though the "completely" really makes the difference...

Sorry I upset you. I didn't mention, though, that it was illegal as well did I? The last thing we want is angry messages from the RoF (or any) devs asking why we stole their planes.

I didn't mean to appear rude, I should have said in my opinion, but I don't think such a thing is possible. Even if it's possible to look good, it just wouldn't be allowed! Big Grin LOL
