[MOD] Realistic Lights
#1

A beautiful look to the lights of IL-2. Big Grin
[Image: f86landing.jpg]
[Image: f86night.jpg][Image: b29farg.jpg]

Features:
Changes the appearance of landing lights and navigation lights in IL-2.
Independent textures from tracers.

New optional effect for fun:
Flash light on white navigation light.
I know the flash light effect is not historically accurate, it's only for fun. So, please, don't write something like "this is not historical". Wink

Thanks! They're much better than the UP ones.

First of all, thank you "santobr" for giving people another option. 8)

But personally I prefer the stock nav lights, for the following reasons

1) Nav lights are supposed to be bright, that is their whole purpose. You only have to observe a real aircraft flying at night to see how bright they are.
2) With these mod's the static lights are also very dim, making them useless for runway lights.
3) Static light no 1 flashes with the flashing light option(which I admit, could be desirable in some situations).

For people like myself who prefer the stock nav lights, able72 has provided a mod to restore them in UP, which you can download here -

Stock navlights in IL2 didn't seem very realistic to me...
Flown real aircraft and never saw such a bloom of color except in real hazy weather.
These new lights look much better.

THANK You!

I agree, the stock nav lights are far from perfect & too bright, especially from a distance & these do look much better up close.
It's just that they're are hardly visible as static lights on runways etc, if the stock static lights could be separated, it would be great.

I don't wish to appear as ungrateful though & I would like to thank santobr again for this mod, because now with the UP nav lights, these nav lights & the stock nav lights we do have a choice.

I would request that these lights be more visible at a distance at night...maybe during the day...but without the halo affect the std. lights had.

This is what I'm talking about.

I made a test mission with runway lights(236 static lights) & took some screen shots. It's not perfect, but close enough, the flashing lights are something else !
I can send this mission to anyone who want's it, it's OK to practice night landings

Is it possible to make the flashing lights flash like they do in modern runways (showing the way in a logical order)?

There are 4 static lights, static light no 1 is the light that flashes, when the "fashing light" mod is enabled.

Static light no 4 doesn't have a halo, niether do the nav lights in santobr's mod

Hi, AJD-NZ. Big Grin

Sorry, but I never used the static lights, this is the why I didn't make better lights for the static lights.
My intention was to make realistic lights that we can see if a aircraft pass over the sky.
There is a airport just 1 kilometer from my home, and I stayed at night seeing aircrafts taking off and approaching for landing, to make this mod.
What I noted that the navigation lights are only small points with a small blur around it and they disapear quick at far distance.
From distance we can only see the landing lights.
But there is a hope, we can control the size for two distances. Big Grin
I can make the navigation lights bigger at far distances.
We need to sacrifice the aircraft looking at far distances, like in this very real screen shot. :?
That's what we see when a aircraft is approaching for landing at night. 8)

Remember, what is show in a photograph is not the same thing we see with our eyes.

Can you send that misson to me?
And I can see what I can do.

Thank you for your observations. 8)

santobr.

Hi santobr

I think you're nav lights are very good, after some testing in QMB
If you pause & zoom out, with the aircraft above, in the night sky, they look pretty good to me.

I think the stock static lights are OK, for runway lights, if you could separate them, it would be fantastic !

Ok, enough blah, blah, E-mail me at AJD-NZ@hotmail.com & I'll send you the test mission.

Nightjar Wrote:Agreed. This is an excellent mod, but, unfortunately, the runway lights are invisible from take-off position. A minor quibble perhaps.

The static lights & the nav lights use the same format, santobr has my test mission, I think he's working on it Smile

----Hey Guys!", This New Mod is really great, looks really realistic and it makes fun to fly with it", BUT !! im a aerobatic-Pilot, so i use the PAT-SMOKE-MOD !! and since i installed this nice Nav.Light mod, ive trouble with IL2 ,if i want to fly with the Smoke.........IL2 is shutting down with a stupid ERROR warning ,where you"ve to click on "ok" and then youre standing there!", without Smoke -> without IL2 _-> lol :-? i dont know what it is, but i think it isnt Compitabel with another MOD, im using. But which!?, i dont know......
Maybe one of the guys here in AAA could help me.... (!,?) -would be really great if s.o. could say me which stupid error this is-

Its a compatibility issue with both mods, one way to find out whats causing the error is deactivate one of the mods, say Realistic Lights deactivate 3DO/Effects/Tracers, or Fireworks then launch with the PAT Smock Mod, if all is OK then try the other, but you have to TRY all possible causes to find what the cure is. Good Luck and thats Mod trouble shooting 101. Big Grin Smile
