Really black shadows....? *SOLVED*

In my game, the shadows for static objects are really, really black. Auto-gen objects are fine (and so, it seems, are A/C shadows) but when flying over towns the immersions really drops, because all the buildings and all the manually added trees have really black shadows. It must be something to do with the conf.ini, so does anyone have any ideas on how to get it black to normal? (pun intended :lol: )

May be something on .dll(s) files, you can find safe dll RAR package into the U.P. pack game version, hope this help.

Hi

I readed somewhere that the parameters to manage shadows was "Use stencil buffer" and "Polygon stipple". I have them activated and desactivated respectively.

Or tell to Fireskull, he knows a little about this XD.

Hmm, I'll have to look into this. The thing is, using the il-2 setup.exe meddles with my conf.ini and I don't want to do that. When I'm next on my Il-2 laptop, i'll try and post my conf.ini. Wink

I'm using an ATI 4650 with the driver's it came with (haven't gotten around to updating them, but then I never had this issue before)

Thanks for that. I've d/led the dlls so now I am going to test them out. Not sure which ones to install first though....

However, could someone with at ATI card compare their conf.ini to mine and see if there is anything amiss there? AS I think i edited my conf.ini before and then got the really black shadows Wink

Hi, everybody


The il2set.exe file settings will over ride your confi.ini setting attempts in most situations. Go to your il2set.exe, click on it, and make certain that all the Video Extensions are checked in their boxes, such as Clip Hint-all of them ON, including Polygonal Stipple. DO NOT CHECK DISABLE ALL BOX.

Consult my Sticky tech help topic called " PC Technical Relationship to IL-2: The info helps everyone ". In it you will find the Maximum settings for everthing in OpenGL.

After you have examined the above information and yet have shadows too dark, then adjust your lighting in the IL-2 Hardware Setup Video options, which are accessed in the IL-2 Main Menu interface.

The last resort is to adjust your computer monitor brightness and adjust the IL-2 lighting with it. Every graphics card has the ability to make a Profile for any program with specific monitor settings and graphics card settings all in one. You must make an executable file for this to be certain to apply.

From IL2 Setup at M4T : "..."Polygon Stipple" is a way of emulating or faking translucent shadows when the stencil buffer is turned off. It does this by creating a "dotted" effect that looks translucent (not unlike the stubble of incoming facial hair). Turn this off for a small performance boost. If stencil buffer and polygon stipple are both turned off, you'll get completely black shadows which isn't much of a drawback...".

Set them into il2Setup.exe contained into general folder - NOTICE 1st of all: Do you are playing with Perfect textures ON I presume (=attemp stencil buffer switcher set to ON)
