Well, I have gotten around to installing HSFX, and everything went well as I installed it into my clean install (vanilla Il-2 + 4.08 + 4.09) However, when the files got to the end of installing, it said that there were some corrupt files Sigh....

...clearly I need to install HSFX again (this is 4.0 BTW) but if I do d/l it again, can I just install it over the top of the seemingly corrupt version? I've kept my UI 1.2 on my PC so that is safe, and I am only installing this on a portable HD so if things get messy with the install I can just wipe it and start again.

Also, when I went to play the game using the exe for HSFX 4.0, it said it needed the disk. This is odd, as I have never had this problem on my UI install :-?

Any help would be appreciated

Before installing it into the game directory I would extract it to a temp folder which lets you see what you are getting and proves that it is all intact. If you are happy with it you can then extract again into the game directory.

I cant think there should be any problems installing over the corrupt version. It should just overwrite the bad files.

The asking for disk thing is due to the HSFX install defaulting to a clean IL2 install

You have to run the JGME util and select the HSFX mod to use HSFX

At which point it will copy over 'files' such that it will no longer prompted you for the disk/CD/DVD

Also, asheshouse recomendation is a good one, unzip/unraw the files to a temp dir, than once they are all unzipped/unrawwed copy the contents of that temp dir to your game root

I don't see any problem installing over the corrupt files, in that it the installer is not going to see that the file is allready there and skip it, it will just copy over that file

You mention a removable drive, one thing I do is keep a clean copy of IL2 backed up on a removable drive, than if I ever have problems I simply copy that to where ever I need it thus saying the install from DVD time

How can I know which file is currupt? I mean, I only got the error message when it went onto the second part, so maybe I only need to d/l one of the last two files? It would certainly save a lot of time if this is the case

Try 7-zip

http://www.7-zip.org/support.html

It (and others) has the ability to check the arcive (arj, zip, etc..) than you will know which zip file is corrupt and thus which 'one' you need to re-dl

Just so this gets bumped back up (excuse the double post) I have successfully d/led it, but it says it can't read the file structure of the HSFX components. They aren't zip files BTW.

EDIT_don't worry, I used the tool on the HSFX 242sdrn website, and I found the little bastard that was mucking things up. I have re-dwnloaded that file, and I am in the process of extracting the 4.0 install to a new file, so that I can copy and past this over my corrupt install I'll let you know how it goes.
