MOD's confused i am

Trust me folks dont leave this site for too long or you will feel completely lost. After having a terrible time trying to install Cannons Channel Map ( having to do a complete re-install 6 times till i gave up trying) i decided to stay at 4.09m and play a few games that i had downloaded, and life was good.
Now ive come back and i find Ka-Boom there are several new upgrades, what i mean is what is HSFX? i see it on here but even at the point of download there is not a clear explanation as to what it is, what it dose, what are the pro's and con's and most important....Do we really need it.

To the folks who create these mods, i cannot thank you enough, you have improved our game beyond all limits. But please when you release these mods can you give us a breakdown 1. what it dose? 2. what is in it? 3. why i need it? 4. has it been tested?

The last point is very important, Like i say i dont even know what HSFX is, but having read the threads for HSFX im not too sure it was tested and ready for release to the folks like me who love The sim and what the moders on here have done to it but are not computer boffins.

Im not trying to make waves, but please would it be possible to ask these very talented people when they create these wonderful mods if they could explain in plain English the above points...Gary

HSFX is like the old UI, but in sfs format and it comes with JGSME, which make the game startup faster, and allow easy access to enabling and disabling mods.

O.k Thanks for that, but this begs another question. In the future will mods be geared to HSFX or the 4.09m, will we in the end be forced into the up-grade if we want to continue to enjoy the MODs . Im sorry if im not explaining this to well, its just the way things are going im beggining to feel that the mods technical jargon is leaving us mear mortals behind and in fact drive newer il2ers away from moding the game at all.

I felt the same as you for a long time.

But tonight after reading this post http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/...207#295207

I clicked each download link, and found that if you scroll all the way down each link page, you can be left in no doubt as to what HSFX is, does, and the benefits to users.

So i took the plunge, i followed each link and explaination, and i had a pretty good understanding of what i was installing and how to do it.

I had a trouble free install and now enjoy the benefits of flying B-17's in 409 servers etc, and you get some great additional planes! like the F-86!! etc!!!.

Do what i did mate, take a minute or two, READ the download and install instructions, and while it is downloading, read the explainations of what it does and how to use it, and you will be good to go

I am far from a comp nerd either, and i managed it! the key is READ! Big Grin

I hope you solve your probs ~S~

Hi!
HSFX and UP 2 are just collections of usermade MODS. Both of them are pretty easy to install, if you have IL2 version, that have not been modded yet by user.
If you are new on this, just make fresh install and DL UP or HSFX and within few clicks, you have heaps of new goodies.
I think that UP and HSFX are like Mac-computers of IL2 game. You can easily install them. They use SFS file system, which makers game load faster. On the other hand it is a step back from open file structure. (You still can add new and betaMODS to game after reading heaps of posts. LOL).
But... every modded game is similiar. Specially if gamecode was cracked.
Modding has done only good for the game. Even official patch 4.10 will use mods.
Toying with mods is not easy and you need to have patiens and lot's of ziggies, beer and understanding or weird girlfriend(wife).
But i'm at late 40Confused and if i could do it, then everybody can.

Thanks for the great replys guys, I think ive got a whole lot of reading to catch up on. But i mean it , I was away from this site for about a month and a half and the amount of new aircraft, skins, missions, maps, installs, is really mind blowing Confusedhock: and it is so easy to get the feeling of being lost as to the level which your il-2 game is at.

Hi Nightfighter. 8)
Yes for sure you should try one of the mod packs. But before you take your
first stepp to install and modify your game. I strongly reccomend you to take a copy of your game
and save it to your HD some place. Make e new copy and overwright the earlier one after each succesful modifying. This way you allways have
a working copy of your latest modifyed version. And i promiss, you will save a lot of time on reinstalling and patching your game
to the one you had before.

Hi odinone, thats some very good advice and belive me there has been more than one time i wish id done that, counting my latest balls-up i must have done at least 12 complete reinstalls due to incorrect installs, computers dying, or scenery missing in map mod updates. Cannons Channel map was a cracker, 4 days downloading it one day installing it only to find most of the buildings content was missing, i drove poor old Easy Rider insane with it as he tried to help me get it sorted. In the end we both admited defeat and i was advised to do a virgin install all the way back up to 4.09b1m, which was fine untill the new QMB wouldn't work....God who said fight simming was easy..Gary

Hi Nightfighter! 8)
You probably lern somthing from what you describe.
Well! As Im sure you now know there are several Mod packs to choose from. UI2.0, UP2.0, SAS V2.2, HSFX 4.1 ... .
Im happy to have a rather new PC and lot of HD space so I have them all and run them all.
However i have found out it take to muche time to give them al my attension at all time.
So lately UP2.0 has become my favorite and thats the one I keep uppdated and download mods,
new aircrafts, skins, effects a.s.o...to test and try out new thing. It is fantastic how much ther is to
finde here and on other sites. What I also found out is that Online player use mostly HSFX modpack,
Offline player goes for UP2.0 and the still powerfull UI2.0 as have a more open filestructure I think. UP2.0 however load the game much faster than UI2,0
So depending on what way Online or Offline gaming you prefer, it shold gide you to witch Modpack you should invest moste of your time to in first hand.
Im mostly offline, making short IL2 movies after building up missions in FMB. Also love flying all the historical and fiction campains you can finde
to download here and at M4T site. Remeber your backup and relax when testing out your new modds.
God Luck and have fun.
