Help - Low FPS and stuttering

Hi,

I hope i can get some help here...
I've gotten a new video card - Geforce 9600GT 1024MB 256BIT and the game is working very slow...
my specs - WinXP, P4 3GHZ, 2GB RAM, 21" MAG LCD, Intel 945G MB.

I know my MB and CPU are pretty old but I think it could run IL2...

I've tryed lots of graphic settings untill once i found something that worked with like 50FPS! so i kept that conf.ini....
Right now while using that same conf.ini i get pretty low like 15FPS... I dont know whats going on with this card, it doesnt seem to work good!

are there any Nvidia setups tips i can try? or maybe also change the conf.ini again, altho it was pretty good last time....

Is this is a modded game or stock game? If it's a modded game turn your effects to low, use stock clouds and avoid missions with zuti's "Radar".

double check you are running it in OpenGL mode and that you have the new card selected as the one to use. during the install it might've been selected to use the onboard graphics. if your rig has one?

Hi everyone,

I'm running it in 4.09 with HSFX4.1 (although all mods are disabled in JGSME).
Also the game is running in OpelGL for sure.

I tried using some of the conf.ini advice in Fireskull's thread, it did help abit but still stutters... i had better FPS with my old 6800Ultra card....
There must be something wrong, It cant be that 9600GT with 1024MB and 256BIT runs IL2 this slow!
I also tried using less graphics and it will help abit but it still stutters.... i noticed that when i look directly at the ground or up to the sky my FPS goes to like 50 but when looking at the horizon, it drops down to 20 and sometimes less when looking at citys and buildings...

I tryed using diffrent resoloutions but with no success... right now i'm trying it with 1680x1050 cuz i got a 21" Monitor I think its 16:9... and this resoloution is the native for my LCD.

Also I tryed changing the Nvidia graphics I tryed with Trilinear optimization and without and also put the AA optimization to performance and tryed changing it to AA - x2 and AT - x2....
Still i get diffrent FPS but nothing current and nothing to be able to fly regulary and without problems online, obviously when you see the A/C in your crosshairs stutter and the whole picture isn't smooth it's much harder to shot anything Confusedhock:

1.Could it be that my CPU is too weak if I could run the game similary with 6800ultra?
2.Also maybe theres a possibility I'm doing something wrong with the configuration? anyone got a recommendation for Nvidia and conf.ini for my setup?
3.Maybe the 9600GT hasn't got enough Watt from the computers power unit? how do i check that? any software?

If anyone has any idea how to check if there is something else wrong with the system, I would like to try anything... I bought the 9600GT especially so i could run IL2, I'm not running any other games so I would appriciate any idea.

How big is your Windows Swapfile (Virtual Memory)?
- Swap file should be double your ram.

Do you have 'Indexing Service' enabled?
- Turn it off. All it does for this game is cause unnessesary read/writes to the H/D.

Do you use a TrackIr?
- If you don't have one, you can run your game with Vsync turned off, but I recommend against it.
- If you do have it, leave Vsync on.


Can you post up all of your settings under Nvidia Control Panel and a copy of your Conf.ini file for IL-2?

swap file is from 2GB to 4GB... i have 2GB RAM.

I didnt find Indexing Service in the services.msc.... so i guess it isnt on.

I dont use TrackIR, Vsync is off currently.

I see something wrong right off the bat. Change:

Code:
HardwareShaders =0

to

Code:
HardwareShaders=1

in order to get IL-2 to take advantage of your graphics card's capabilities.

After I bought my new GTX 260, I experience serious stuttering problems. I 've opened a topic here

Good day,

I made some additions to my information for clarification:



Benchmarking Focus on Stutter Reduction: These work together very well when the user settles on Trilinear:

1) Graphics Control Panel - set Force Mipmaps: Trilinear

2) Setup window, click on il2set.exe file - Texture Mipmap Filter: Trilinear, Texture Compression: S3TC, Texture Compression ARB Extension

3) Conf.ini file - make sure TexCompressARBExt=1 is enabled. HardwareShaders=1 is enabled.

4) IL-2 Hardware Setup - Main Menu - Set all your Video Mode options to Custom settings, including Texture: Excellent and Detailed Clouds, and so forth.

5) Option A: Graphics Control Panel Texture Filtering - Trilinear Optimization should be tried. Leave all other settings in place and test with it and without it. In my online missions with NVIDIA while using DirectX, this gives me the best trilinear image and performance. Both OpenGL and DirectX users could try this. You test it to see for yourself when you need performance and stutter reduction.

6) Option B: IL-2 Setup window, click on il2set.exe file - Texture Anisotropic Extension will allow the rendering of the best possible textures of any configuration that you create. Using this extension will decrease performance. Activate it during this Benchmarking Phase if your computer system seems to be able to handle it with at least good FPS.

Remember to push OK and Apply for those settings to be accepted which require it. Restart IL-2 after you complete a set of changes.

IMPORTANT: All of these in the above lines are specifically designed to work together. For those who need one level less than the best image quality because of stutters and performance necessity, then this probably is the base from which you would make other graphics adjustments.

Stutter Reduction should be accomplished in the Benchmarking phase before progressing to Optimization and finally Tweaking.

Getting excellent clouds, textures, water, and other popular graphics features - "eye candy" - requires making the progression of Benchmarking, Optimization, and finally Tweaking as revealed in my tech Sticky topic at the top of this Forum.
