[Download] "To Lose a Battle"
#1

Well, now my latest campaign is finished and ready to be downloaded: "TO LOSE A BATTLE".

It's a semi-historical, static 18-mission campaign, set during the Battle for France 1940. You are a French fighter pilot flying the Curtiss Hawk - a surprisingly potent aircraft, no cannon fodder for the Bf109.

You can download it here: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php? ... ils&id=700

The campaign commences with the Blitzkrieg phase, starting on May 10, with the actions against Belgium, swiftly followed by the breakthrough at Sedan, the dash for the Channel, and finally the air actions of the final weeks before the armistice on June 25. (At this date French aerial resistance had virtually ceased, with a number surviving aircraft withdrawing to French North Africa.)

Many missions in this campaign are based on actual events. Despite popular conception, the "Battle for France" was no pushover for the Luftwaffe. Fighter units equipped with first rate fighters like the Curtiss Hawk and the Dewoitine held their own, despite bad odds, and inflicted quite heavy losses on the Germans. And the pilots were often first rate. It was other factors that led to the defeat, to quote Philippe Ballarini:

"Without any doubts, the French Air Force could have been more efficient during the ground battles, but it was handicapped from day one of the war. Communications so crucial for the outcome of the battles did not measure up to the situation at hand. Radio communications were poor, with transmissions relying on the telephone service of the Army, and so poor in fact that some units of the Air Force had no communication with the ground forces for which they were supposed to provide reconnaissance and air support.

When we learn that the day after Dunkerque, more than 70% of the airplanes were grounded for technical problems, and that the same situation existed for the armors, we must agree with the comments made by historian Patrick Facon, that even before losing the air war, the French Air force had already lost the supply battle."

Poltava:

Quite thrilled to see this campaign appear right now. Coincidentally, I've been researching one airbattle of the Battle of France, the events of the morning of 12 May 1940 involving French H-75A3 fighter pilots and JU87B Stukas.

Please see this 'Stuka pilot Heinz Migeod' Website, specifically the page on this pilot's experiences in the Campaign for France. The Site was created over the past 2 months by Tinus (Biltongbru on AAA forums). I've assisted on some aspects.

Downloading your campaign now. Looking forward to flying it.
