Saitek Joke: 1 throttle axis undetected
#1

Hello to everyone!

I've recently purchased a Saitek Proflight joke and I'm facing a strange problem:
I have 5 controllers installed (pedals, joysticks, and the joke).
If all the 5 devices are plugged, the 4 on the top of the game controllers list (in control panel) are detected by IL21946 and I'm able to set all the five axis of the Saitek Joke (pitch, roll and 3 levers on the throttle quadrant). Instead, if I unplug one of the devices (to have the joke and other useful stuff detected) one of the three throttle axis is no more recognised and comes back only if I restore the unplugged device.

Is there anyone who faced the same problem and knows how to solve it?

I made a search in the forum but I've not found a solution. I had a test with JoyIDs but no success. Finally, I've not still tryed Multi-Throttle by MikkOwl because I should like to understand what's the problem.

Thank you in advance guys.

Two things...

First, I'm pretty sure that IL-2 only recognize maximum of four controllers. (but I could be mistaken)

Second, anytime you map axes on a controller in IL-2, then unplug one of your controllers, Windows will reassign the ID# for the controllers, and you will have to remap the axes again in IL-2.

...or maybe I misunderstand the problem...

Thank you Bulau for your kind answer. You are right and I know also that plugging a new device means that the Joy IDs may change (depending on the order in the window game device list).

I'll try to explain better reporting the two situations encountered:

1 - all five devices plugged. I remap the devices in the IL2 hotas control window. All the (five) axis of Proflight joke and throttle are correctly detected and working with ID4.

2 - unplug the second device in the Windows list (ID2, Saitek Aviator stick) and remap again all the hotas axis. This time the Proflight joke has ID3 and one of the three throttle axis is not detected.

I cannot unplug the fifth device instead of the second because I need it for the trim axes, but anyway I don't understand the reason of such a strange behaviour.

OK, I think I understand what you are saying, now, but I don't really know of a solution.
I would suggest copying the [rts_joystick] section from your conf.ini, both with all 5 devices mapped, and then again after you unplug one, into a text file for comparison. My theory, is that the conf.ini will initially have only 4 axes listed for the whatever is ID3, then when you unplug the Aviator, the Yoke drops into ID3, but the extra axis is not updated...or something like that...

It's possible you may be able to copy, paste, edit, the required line for the missing axis.

But, I'm just clutching at straws, since I dont have that many controllers.

Do you use joystick management tool, like IL-2Sticks?

I believe that you should restart the game after changing the device and see after how it works!

I have always trouble changing device after the game run so when I change device I olways restart and I have no more troubles!

Think the issue here is not the number of controllers, but the total number of analog (slider) inputs.

HOTAS section has only 10 analog inputs.

If thats the case use the Saitek profiler to set up prop pitch using "bands " on the axis and assign the incremental Keyboard hotkeys to the bands. If using this method for throttle skip 10% if you use bomb door mod.

Thank you to everyone for your support !!

I'll try to do as Bulau suggests an report the [rts_joystick] section of conf.ini in the two situations. Anyway I don't use any joystick setting software.
Maybe that forcing the conf.ini by adding the line related with the missed axis solves the problem.

Concerning restart I've always unplugged the devices after a IL2 shut down. I haven't tried to set the axis, exit the game and restart to check if the second time the axis is detected.

Maybe that there is also a limit to the maximum axis number as Fisneaky supposes, but I don't understand why all runs well if the devices are all plugged and things go wrong after having disconnected one of them. Thanks for the suggestions about the profiler.

Tomorrow night I'll try to execute to operations that were faced here, if I had a sim session this evening my girlfriend could kill me.....

Thanks again guys

I have the same issue with the game when running too long....some modders should try to fix it also!
