making level bombers level bomb, not shallow dive bomb
#1

I have experienced that very often a group of bombers (B-25 or B17 for example, so real bombers) show a strange behaviour when aproaching target.

I have them running to ratget at, say 4000 m, have waypoint so they open their bays, have an attack waypoint at 4000m and then the way home.
what happens is, after openeing their bombbay, they all start a shallow dive to the target like jabos!

of cousre after dropping they all "pull out" to 4000m again. quite a sight with a big flight of B-17s doing that, hanging vertically in the skys all over the place trying to get to altitude.
I am running UP2.01 currently and tried to activate/deactivate the AI mods, but no joy. I experienced this also from some time ago before UP.
When looking at the missions I have not detected a pattern which waypoint arrangement does this as in oppsing to somtimes they do as they should (but not on the same missions)

so what triggers such behaviour? is it an aproaching hight thing or something like that?

Ensure your 'Attack' waypoint is also at 4000m and check that their speed is constant.
In total you should have 3-4 waypoints for the run.

1. IP (Initial Point)
2. Attack run
3. Bomb Drop
4. Egress to RP (Rally Point)

Make sure they are all the same speed/alt and you should have no problems.

Though I fly through the valley of death, I will fear no evil.....

Some B-25's are classified as Sturmoviks and will 'glide bomb' no matter what - the ones with fixed forward machine guns or cannons will do this.

If level bombers like the B-17 are glide bombing, it probably means you have a ground attack waypoint set to target a specific ground object. Just set the ground attack waypoint without setting a target, and the planes should just drop their bombs to hit the point the ground attack waypoint is over, without losing altitude.

Are you assigning particular targets (is there a green connecting line between the GATTACK waypoint and the target)? If so, try "clearing" the attack point and leaving the waypoint as a GATTCK point. I think that will result in level bombing.
