Hi all,
How do you install new maps to HSFX 4.1? I did a search and came up with a thread covering this topic,
viewtopic.php?t=24644&highlight=maps
but the link Fly-Zo gives in it is apparently broken. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
March Hare
P.S. - While I'm at it I might as well ask if anyone knows how to load kevinp's road plate mod into HSFX 4.1. Thanks again!
Here's and example using the ag_Archangelsk map.
Unzip the download to a temporary folder on desktop.
Cut and paste the folder ag_Archangelsk from the temp folder to IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Mods/MapMods/Maps
Copy (do not move) the file all.ini from IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/files/maps to IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Mods/MapMods/Maps
Open your new copy of all.ini and add a four new lines of text at the bottom
ag_Archangelsk ag_Archangelsk/load.ini
ag_Archangelsk_Summer ag_Archangelsk/load_s.ini
ag_Archangelsk_Winter2 ag_Archangelsk/load_w.ini
ag_Archangelsk_Summer_def ag_Archangelsk/load_sd.ini
These define the menu selection text for the four versions of this map which appear in the drop down list in FMB.
For most maps that use standard textures and objects this is all that is required.
If the map has custom ground textures these are added to the folder IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Mods/MapMods/Maps/_tex
--- follow the instructions in the map download.
Some maps will require new objects or buildings. Eg Canons Channel map.
The map willl not be able to be used until these objects have been added.
Any special objects required should be detailed in the readme file
You don't have to create the mods/mapmods/maps structure if you don't want to.
In a 'clean' HSFX the all.ini resides in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Files/maps, so all you have to do is paste the map folder into Files/maps, plus the _tex folder if the mapbuilder has created one, then add the relevant line to the all.ini.
So...
root/Files/maps/redko_japan
root/Files/maps/_tex/etc etc
and adding: redko_palau redko_palau/load.ini to the all.ini will let you use redko's retextured Palau map.
If you create a Mods folder and put all new mods in there, including edited all.ini files etc it means that your original HSFX install stays "clean". In case of problems later all you need to do is disable the Mods folder by changing it to -Mods and you revert to a clean HSFX install.
The ability to do this is likely to be useful when the next update to HSFX appears.
