Bomb Smoke

I was playing around with some of the effects included with H&P Uranium Effects mod.

I started on some of the bomb smoke, and i though it looked pretty good with little to no hit in FPS on my old machine.



You can download here, and add it as a stand alone, or overwrite the existing folders in your H&P mod folder but if you do it that way, back it up first. This is still not done, cause the water splash for the larger bombs needs a bit of work but this is what did so far.

Thanks H&P for their great effects mods. I hope to get more use out of these mods in the future.

Nice work. How did you get your POW so back?

Also, are you able to fix the sudden disappear seen in the end of the explosion when the black smoke starts to clear up?

I think the smoke will disappear too quickly can you change that?

yes, i can make the smoke linger longer.

Thats actually an easy thing to do.

You could actually do it yourself by going into \Effects\Explodes\Bomb1000\Land

in the Fontain.eff file and adjusting the Live time and finish time. They could be longer, i would just make sure they are the same length what ever you decide is better for you.

I've spent a bit more time on it, so there will be another version of it soon.

I can get the smoke to linger for minutes if needed, and i've found a way to keep the FPS loss minimal. I'm trying to find the balance for a good a effect with a low decay so that you can see the smoke for a while. Making the smoke last longer seems to take away from the effect, so i'm playing with the numbers to see if i can get both.

Under tests i also drop more bombs than whats typical for a bomb run and since this is also on my POS machine, i'm thinking that most people should be able to run it with better results.

There is one other thing. Apparently, when a plane crashes it uses the smaller bomb effect. Since I've begun to expand upon the smaller explosion it might be necessary to designate the crashes with its own effect, but i don't know how to do that.

There is an easy way to get it working with UP, and that is to make a copy of the H an P effects folder in your JSGME file folder.

You can rename it to "new bomb smoke (w H and P effects mod)" or what ever suits you.

then open the path as follows....
Files\Effects\Explodes

and overwrite the existing files with the files found in the download's explodes folder.

as far as i know this should work for now.
