Strange: connecting via IP - nogo, via Hyperlobby - OK ?!?
#1

Saludos!

A good friend of mine had/has a strange problem: he can't join my hosted Il-2 games via the IP, but if I host a game via Hyperlobby, he can.
I'm the host for our "private outfit" , my rig's all set up and running, and all other comrades can join via IP w/o problems.

My friends PC has XP running and he has no problems joining other games, like WoW, or Call Of Duty.

He's had that problem before, but back then, we thought it was his Norton IS package. But since then he re-installed the whole system and
switched to Kaspersky. But still: nogo for the IP, only able to join thru Hyperlobby...

We tried the common workarounds: setting full permissions for Il-2 in Kaspersky/XP firewall, switching both off, but no help there.
What wonders me most is that even without those measures he could connect via Hyperlobby!
For testing reasons I even disabled my firewall, but that didn't work either.
My FW doesn't even alert of incoming connection attempts, so something is still blocking him, but strangely only when trying to join a Il-2 game.

Somehow I'm at my wits end... Could this be an issue regarding his network card? Provider issue (AOL)?

Is there someone here with similar experiences or some hints? All help is appreciated! Cry

(And before it comes to mention: yes, there's no problem setting up a HL game, but I really like to know the Gremlins' name, that's causing the bugger! )

Check the firewall during the game.

If no one can join ur game, problem should be in ur end. Do the following.

1- Check ur firewall, it must be disabled to allow ppl to join ur game.
2- If u use an router, like me, it blocks connection to games by default. U must add an exception. Check ur router manual on how to do that

If other ppl can join ur game, ask ur buddy to check his il2setup. In the network tab, should be an field for his IP. Ask him to write his IP in the field.

If it works through HL, then it has to work direct IP. All HL does is direct a client to the selected server.
I would suspect that your friend is doing something wrong with the direct IP process.

Double check his port forwarding on router and that he's using his correct local IP (192.168.etc.etc) for his machine.

Well we could also rule this out. He had no mis-spelling of my no-ip address as well as no typing error in my IP at that time.
He also had the the right port added, with the right syntax (:21000).
I asked him 3 times to make sure - and he was starting to get a little... let's say annoyed...
But an interesting fact you provided - if HL only does a redirect, why isn't the direct IP method working...
Guess I'll start a game and then pay him a visit, to actually watch what he's entering in the address field.

Why? He's the client, no need for him to open any ports. Or did I miss out on something? :???:
