Hi all I was wondering how to create a custom pilot skin. I can't figure it out. I've been trying for an hour or so. I searched on google and here but no luck. We really need a guide to this.
Yep; no tutorials on this. I just made my first custom pilot-skin a couple of weeks ago and was looking for such tutorial.
I just have pasted a pic into the face of a pilot-bmp file already in game, but haven't yet tried to redo completely (flight-suit included) a pilot skin. Maybe is not too hard, but I can't tell.
Max for sure can help us with some tips or pointers... if he is around.
In your IL-2 rootfolder go to Paintschemes/Pilots and choose one.
Convert the bitmap to .jpg and edit it the way you want. Than convert it back to a 65 kb, 256x256 pxls, 256 colour bitmap and put it back in the Pilots folder.
Don't forget to back up the original one!!!
Once I used Salma Hayek's face and gave the uniform a flesh colour, so when she bailed out it looked like if she was bare naked.
Hello, Verhangnis. I've found that outlining the jaw of your pilot with the same color of the chin strap will eliminate that double chin effect found on a lot of pilot skins. Also, try to use a photo of a person looking directly straight forward. A guide line layer can help you get the correct position and scale of your pilot's face. I use a simple T shape scaled to correctly show me where the brow and center/tip of the nose should be. Just be sure and disable that layer before you save and export. Good luck!
