There've been some changes made
#1

Hi, guys.
I haven't played IL2 in a couple of years. I used to be pretty well adicted to it so when I bought a new house and moved I went cold turkey.
When I last played, we had 4.08. I used to fly full real on Hyperlobby. At that time, from what I can remember, this was how the game was:
a) No moving carriers. Take-offs were a bit tricky as were landings. But your carrier was always right where you left it!!
b) The weather never changed nor did time of day.
c) The types of aircraft that came with the game was what you got. No imports!!
d) No imported skins. You were stuck with the origionals, some of which were kinda crappy.
e) Crappy engine sounds. You could hear ground based artillery from your aircraft. You could hear the guy sneaking up on your six. Wierd stuff like that
f) The maps were the ones that came with the game and people adapted them to suit certain scenarios. Again, no imports.

I realise that some, if not all, of these things have been fixed. I've tried reading through the forums and have become completely confused. In what ways has the game changed over the years I've been away?
Would the computer I had then cope as well with all these mods or do I need an upgrade?
Thanks

Sounds very cool. Did they finally fix the sound? I remember that you couldn't bounce someone because he could hear you coming. You could also hear explosions and gunfire on the ground.
Does everyone still go to Hyperlobby or is there a new venue?
Also, will the rig that handled 4.08 cope with the latest mods? Do I need an upgrade?
Thanks

Welcome back!

I highly recommend the HSFX 4.1 Mod Pack. It is loaded with more mods and features than some guys would use in years! It has the JSGME Mods Enabler which makes managing the mods to be very easy. The HSFX 4.1 has very many new maps and over 300 flyable planes. It is fast to load and runs with good performance on a computer.

Go to my help topic about how to handle the UI mod pack, though I just want you to absorb the information. Do not add the Unified Installer to the HSFX. The HSFX 4.1 contains practically all the UI content in the HSFX 4.1 download.

Look for the multi-colored text about half-way down the webpage and find my post which is called "Mods Download Help Here..."

(The link is inoperative)

Next you can go to the simple instructions for the HSFX 4.1 download:

Enjoy the gigantic new amount of stuff since the 4.08m. You'll love it!

Yes, the HSFX 4.1 has the fastest loading time of any mod pack that I have heard. A bunch of HyperLobby servers use it or you can disable mods and fly 4.09m mode with it to be compatible with other servers. Plus it improves IL-2 performance over probably every other mod pack out there.

The HSFX 4.11 add-on is super easy to install into the HSFX 4.1. Just point the installer at your IL-2 folder after you have switched all your mods off. It's a good idea to make a copy of HSFX 4.1 as a backup.

Eventually you might want to join an online squadron. In the Announcements Forum is the Community Generated Squadron List. Many guys like me have an IL-2 copy for flying with the squadron and another one for adding mods and joining other servers. It's easier if one has a stategy according to goals, you know? Joining a squadron has many advantages such as one on one help in getting IL-2 stuff in order. The friends that I have made mean a lot to me. I recommend joining a squadron for online flying.
