[WIP] Monte Cassino Beta 2
#1

Changes to v.01:

load.ini glitch fixed.
A lot of trees added (Picture from mission editor, so it's wysiwyg)

I strongly recommend to set forest = 3 in your config.ini. If you think this doesn't work with your rig, please try and report (If it does'nt work, there will be no trees at all).
A lot of texture and height correction.
A lot of minor changes.

Known bug: I forgott to blank the airport sandplates.

Download Beta2 here:

http://www.filefront.com/16609323/zip_Monte_Cassino.zip

Installation: See below. If you allready installed the former version, just overwrite both map and texture folders.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This little map covers the area of Monte Cassino in southern Italy, where a fierce battle took place in early 1944:

There is still a lot to do here and there and everywhere, but the airports (not visible at the picture) work. Unfortunaly nearly all of the autogenerated trees are surpressed by buildings. Is there a way to reduce the supressing area? Otherwise i would have to use the row of trees possibly resulting in a quite big actors.static.

Download the beta here:

(Deleted)

Installation:
Put the _tex and the zip_Monte_Cassino folder into your maps folder.
Add to your all.ini the following line:
zip_Monte_Cassino zip_Monte_Cassino/load.ini

Where the maps folder and the all.ini are depends on what modpack you are using and where the mods are stored.

Thank you very much, Zipzapp Big Grin !!!
Maybe a little map, but very useful: this was an area of harsh aerial combats!

Great idea for a map. A lot of air combat happened in this area. Because the Germans in the monetary were almost impenetrable, the allies bombed it to the ground ... which made it even harder to take because the Germans then had better cover under the rubble.

When I try to load the map I get a java error that says Cant load file Tex/Land/Summer/Zip_Islands/dlv_Sinai_v2.tga

Downloaded and tested:
incredibly good! You have reproduced perfectly the landscape of that zone, with all those little villages, even on mountains!
And textures are very well chosen!
Bravo! Big Grin
If this is a beta, I'm anxiously waiting for the final version...

Same problem here as mnlk999. Not able to load the game.
I found out why. In the load.ini there is this line:

Water1 = land/summer/zip_Islands/dlv_Sinai_v2.tga

Probably you don't have Zip Islands map like me.

EDIT:

@mnlk999
But there is an easy temporarily solution to make this map work. Besides this line in the load.ini there is one texture included called White Chalk but it's nowhere in the load.ini.
So what you can do is this:
Change the line in the load.ini into Water1 = land/summer/zip_Monte_Cassino/dlv_Sinai_v2.tga
And rename the White Chalk texture into dlv_Sinai_v2.tga

By doing this it won't affect any other map.

Now it should work and when checking the map I haven't seen any weird texture combination.

@zipzapp: did you know that there are 2 other maps in the making which includes Monte Cassino?

What a beautiful little gem of a map. Such detail applied to populating with objects. Really indicates a lot of patience on your part. Hats off to you for this ...

And a map of the Italian theater has long been overdue ... seems to have been a forgotten area in Il-2 map making ...

This is a great map with a real Italian feel to it and what a great idea to i would never have thought of Monte Cassino! superbly populated and all those red slated rooves brings a nice feel of the med which is something that is very difficult to achieve with the lack of med objects.

Well done and thanks very much
