MOD Idea: Cockpit Glass Scratched Effect
#1

Anyone know of a mod that alters the appearance of cockpit glass? The effect I mean is the scratched effect you see in Lock On. I don't know if it's even possible or historically accurate (modern canopies aren't made from 'glass', but a form of plastic), I just thought it looks pretty good.

If it's been done already, could someone point me in the right direction..

Thanks

I'm not aware of such a mod being made. I know that cockpit-painters have decided to give the glass more of a laminated effect, but never scratches I don't think Wink Could be a nice mod.

I have written many months ago about the same idea.

This mod is important. I feel that my plane doesn't have a glass Big Grin
There are some exceptions but this is still not so much.

I hope modders are going to change it Smile

Lots of planes with repainted cockpits have reflections of sunlight which makes it seem as though the cockpit is there. But scratches...hmm...it's not really realistic. Just my two pence Wink

If I recall all of the original flyable stock planes had Plexiglas in their canopies that were not crystal clear. They had what appeared to be random distortions or smudges or reflections etc. and were a real pain in the neck to look through at times especially since prior to the 6DOF mod you could not move your head around these blotches.

Good day, everyone

Since this topic seems to not be about HSFX, I moved it from the HSFX Forum to this IL2 MODS Discussion Section.

Wouldn't it be cool if after getting your canopy shot a lot of times it would shatter?

If to speak about historic accuracy, nearly all ww2 era aircrafts had their canopies made of perspex (organic glass):

Parts of canopies (mostly front & rear) had armored glass...

Well, you're wrong, mate... I've been racking my brains on how to make a realistic perspex scratched canopies look for almost 2 years already, since the day I've made my
Yak-s cockpits...
Did you try my Yak-s or LaGG-s cockpits? (Try to fly in poor weather to see the scratches... )
I still want to improve it, but the problem is that I still can't find a good perspex (to make a texture pattern)...
Like I said, I'm not 100% satisfied with my canopies scratches look, but it surely better than nothing:

Like I said, it's a temporary descision only, but if you like this -- PM me... O.K., mate?

Well, I wasn't aware until I read that mate! Big Grin

I still don't think this is realistic. It could happen in a sortie, but scratches would annoy a pilot and could leave him in an adverse situation when in combat so he would probably want them polished out. Perspex was prone to scratching though, that is true, so it could be possible (I suppose)

Just a thought reading these posts, could we not have the sun-weathered or crackled(whatever the word may be), canopies like in Wings of Prey or Lock-On, instead of the random scratches? A scratch here and there but a sun-weathered canopy seems more, well, relevant... Big Grin
