Where sims are going - "Old 666"

Check out the amazing detail in this video. It is almost impossible to tell this is not a real aircraft. Smoke, explosion and bullet effects are also amazingly real. I have wondered why the curved sim aircraft surfaces are still faceted. I suspect this is due to the amount of CPU and memory resources required to accurately reproduce a truly smooth curved surface. Still IL-2 is getting chillingly close to a window on reality.

Nice video, but as far as I can tell this is CGI, not a flight sim and certainly not "off the shelf". Probably very expensive professional software on a very powerful rig, but just animations and no AI or anything like that. We'll get there, but we have a ways to go, I think.

Seeing that video was like a smack in the face!!! To see that ole B-17 fight off all those meatballs, all I can say is DAMN!! Now that's American tenacity at it's best!! Salute to Old 666 crew!
