A & A Paintworks WIP F86 skins for Dixie Capt's new KTO camp
#16

Thanks Anthony! Hopefully the campaign will be ready soon so we all can take these skins out over MiG Alley

I took a Sabre skin out for a run over the KTO and added the 120 gallon drop tanks to the load out...here's what I saw:

The default tanks are a richer blue color than the metal I made...it's a bit distracting, actually. So I made a replacement texture for the tanks to match the metal on the skins...quite simple to do actually. I just used the structure for the original mod by PeterD and reworked his original drop tank TGA to match Big Grin I've still got to blend the tops and bottoms to blend smoothly, but I think it's good to go:

If any of you wonderful modder folks have a template I could use to remake the TGAs for the tanks properly, I'd be most appreciative

Now this also got my brain working on the generic default skins. What do you all think of me making replacement textures for the default skins using this template? I'll have to align the "painted-on" markings to the in-game marks (I use Spookie & McWolf's stuff now...I ejected MAT Manager a ways back), but it really shouldn't be too difficult. I've had plenty of time & experience using/creating MAT Manager compatible skins. I'd do versions of all the variants of course, and if this sounds like a good idea to everybody, I'll get cracking on it.

Plus, this would make things easier for Dixie Capt...all he'd have to do when he's building the missions is select a default skin to fill out the rest of the flight...it'll add more visual variety to the missions while you're in the air.

Cheers,

KC

It's on the skin file, should be pretty obvious where the helmet is... anyway it's left of the horizontal stabilisers and underneath the fuselage mapping. There is a left side, right side and also top on the helmet + goggles and the side of the goggles.

Hello Casey... Wow Great Skins.... You asked if there was anything we might notice..... look at the port side front tooth on your Father Dan skin, is it backwards or am I just being picky

Don't get me wrong, I know you said that part was tricky and Im know skin expert.

Cant wait to use your hard work, and maybe you and I could talk sometime so I could pick your brain about skinning... Been wanting to do some for awhile now.

Thanks again for the great work

Whoops, I've been a bad daddy by neglecting this thread. Been pretty busy working on our website etc...I hope you all understand

I haven't seen any updadates on Dixie's campaign for a while now, so I'm not sure when it's going to get off the ground...hehe...pun intended. I'll get in touch with him and find out what the status is, and if it's a no-go...I'll upload the skin pack for everybody to grab.

Okay...first things first.

@ FA_Pappy: that's how the shark mouth was painted on according to my references, but it does distort slightly due to the stretching there. It's a combination of 'what can I live with' and 'what's 100% accurate to history'. Sometimes skinners have to comprimise a little with the 3D model we have to work with. I'm not complaining mind you, PeterD did an amazing job with the Sabre

@ Russ_Ace: I'm using the KTO pilot skin pack by Elephant...it's uploaded to M4T: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php? ... ils&id=366 Elephant included a TGA file that will change the helmet color from red to white. Install the TGA called helmetusa1.tga into: "(drive where IL2 is installed)\Ubisoft \IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Mods\F-86A-5 Sabre\Textures" and say yes to overwrite.

Cheers!
