Thanks, Archer

Obviously, this is a major improvement over IL-2.

The water and sunrise looks amazing! Did you notice the very realistic fire?

Did anyone notice that the London scene looks like Cannon's Channel Map version of London? Hummmm....

I noticed that too. Actually a couple of weeks ago already when watching this screenshot. It looks like if several of Canonuk's houseblocks got transplanted into SOW.
Did SOW developers got "inspired" by Canonuk's work or is he involved in it in a way?

Hello, Lejo

There are a few possibilities:

1) Block houses in London which 1C: Maddox Games used as references happened to be the same ones in photographs which CannonUK used. A good possibility?

2) Maddox Games is working with CannonUk.
Unlikely, however, a few IL-2 modders are communicating with Oleg.

3) A coincidence of some probability being that Maddox and Cannon happened to be thinking along similar lines in several issues about London. Included would be the general amount of detail to be included. This is plausible.

There is no doubt that the IL-2 modders and Maddox Games have a strong influence on one another.

Did anyone notice the realistic smoke coming from a few smoke stacks?

3) Sounds the most likely by far, but there is a really quite a lot more detail and more densely packed buildings in the SoW picture than in Cannon's map.

I think you may be overestimating Modders influence on Oleg though. While Oleg has taken on board information from modders, this tends to be because the people in question are very knowledgeable in a relevant subject, and take the time to present Oleg with a useful version of said information, rather than because they are modders.

Hi, David

I feel that you are open to a suggestion here.

We know that Oleg Maddox is inviting quality third party development, as he made this an official policy for Storm of War, unlike past releases of IL-2 before Team Daidalos aquired the general full rights to create in IL-2 this Spring of 2010.

In my humble opinion, the acceptance of quality third party development in both IL-2 recently and Storm of War in the future gives clear evidence of the deep impression upon 1C: Maddox Games and the leading modders toward one another.

That is quite possible, I know Oleg is happy to have Modders working towards developments for SoW, and through DT for Il2, but if I'm correct the original intention of providing third party tools was to attract the small development teams that have been working on expansions for the Microsoft flight Simulator series. If this is correct it is a happy coincidence that this will also be very helpful for Modders.

David,

I see what you mean by the third party being a broader scope than just the modding communities which are fans of Maddox Team's simulations. That is good to remember, too. Yes, we will see more enjoyment as the integration of different communities excellerates.

Just remember that 3rd parties can potentially release payed add-ons. It can create an expensive game. I mean of course if the add-ons include a lot it's worth it, but looking at WoP then I would not recommend that type of route.

I can't wait to see how SoW will look once the North African addon is released.

Hi,

This is my first day on these forums. I've been interested in SoW since I came across screen shots of the game several months ago. Sorry to be off subject but I was wondering if anyone could give me some direction as to how I might prepare for the game. I played Fighter Ace for about 10 years and I'm sure SoW will be much different.

Cheers

Hello, Khan and welcome to All Aircraft Simulations. Smile

First, please allow me to show you our favorite simulation at this website, made by the same team - 1C: Maddox Games - who is developing the soon to be released Storm of War series. We love IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 with over 400 flyable aircraft, ships, ground attack, and dozens of maps covering many World War Two battle regions. The modding community for it is HUGE!

He is a screen capture of my flying in IL-2, created by the same team which will bring us Storm of War:

... and if you are in an area that allows YouTube on the InterNet, then this is a great example of the image quality of IL-2. (Highly recommend watching it.):

For enjoying great Storm of War image and performance of that simulation, owners will need a computer with a DirectX 11 graphics card in order to give it justice.

Whatever graphics card that you have now which was made at least in the last few years will run IL-2 nicely.

Mike, so what I recommend is that you start with IL-2. In a month or two, Storm of War will be released, but as huge as IL-2 is with many thousands of fans, (maybe more than a million?), I feel that it would be a shame to never try it, as beautiful as it is.

For about 10 USA Dollars, you can be having the fun that we do! That's less expensive than a night on the town and IL-2 will last!

Send a Private Message to me and I will give you the links for the information to get you started.
