Sound levels and UP, little problem
#1

I am very satisfied, but I noticed that guns noise sounds very low compared to the engine. Guns, cannons, everything is drowned by the (excellent) engine roarrrrr. Is there a way to tweak these levels, maybe working on the .INI or something?
Thank you in advance gents.

Good day, Conte Zero

There is a way to tweak volume level, but I haven't done it in about two years, so I don't remember.

In the real historical aircraft, the amount of noise volume in comparing the guns and the engine would vary somewhat from one plane to another type. It would be nice to have a mod to easily tweak these levels from plane to plane. Much of how the noise of guns and engines compare is lost to history, but there are pilot accounts of the most famous aircraft.

Does anyone know of a mod for this?

I think you´ll have to go into every .prs file and find the "[spl] xxx"-line and change it to your preference, I belive the [spl] should read out as "speakerlevel". I remember doing that when certain modded ACs produced soundlevels far above the main levels of other ACs long time ago. It´ll be some timeconsuming handywork but it might be worthwhile. Hope it helps. (By the way the prs files are found in the Mods/STD/presets/sound folder or root 1946/files/preset/sound)

The problem though is that the latest version of UP uses another file structure and it's realy dificult to locate where your sounds are. I on the other hand created a "MODS" folder in my IL2 install and have put my prefered soundmod in there. I stiill use the sounds of UP 1.7 with some tweaking and some replacements like Cypher's P 38 sounds. In there one finds the old sounds and presets file structure where you can ajust the spl level of your sounds.

thank you all for the support; well, looks quite technical, way too much for me. actually my purpose was not really historically accurate, I just wanted some BA-DA-BOOM noise for the guns, since it turns me on, but it is not a big issue, I'll just stick to the usual UP sound levels

I was curious, thought there was some easy way hidden somewhere

Ciao Fireskull! and see you all around!
