A little mistake ruin my day
#1

Yesterday I went back at flying the Mig-15bis over Korea winter and could not get any good shot without getting shut down, mostly because of the
WANTED enemy No1: the AI's from my own side. (See WANTED POST ). So today I was in a better mood and decided to try again.
All was going well, managed to shot down two F-86 escort planes ( 2 out of 8 ) before any AI stole them from me, pursued and shot down four F84F's and four
Panther's in bomber config. ( I asked my team to rejoin so they would not interfere), after the kills I sent them home. Then went to the US airfield and destroyed
11 planes on the ground with limited ammo and fuel (no AAA). I knew at this point there was still an enemy aircraft intact down there
and ammo in some of my guns, but decided that the fuel situation could turn nasty on me and ruin it all: so I called it a day and turned back.
I cruised 340 kmh all the way and I arrived at the airfield a low speed of 280 kmh, there were still four 'friendly' migs landing, and I was asked to go around.
I throttled up to regain some altitude and make a go around. On the next pass to land I was given the OK, so I lower the gear and bang the gear was lost .
I noticed, a bit late, that my airspeed was now 540 Kmh !
I was stuck in the air, with thoughts of bailing, but felt it was a chicken way out. In every past experiences trying to land the Mig-15 without gear, the result was
a very big ball of fire... So I flung myself around, in and out of the airfield until I felt good enough to touch down, broke the aircraft apart in bits and survived:
final tally 22 aircraft destroyed including my own ! It was all going so well, I just forgot a tiny detail...
Worst of all, is that I was recording this game with my best result so far, then had to messed up. :|

That's what I hate the most, crashing on landing after a great sortie.

Happen again, this time my flaps gut stuck in combat mode and I over shot
the runway. Went cross country and broke the gear on an ill-side.
22 destroyed again, but my plane can probably be repaired (?) from these damages so
I can't claim 23: "@#$%^&* "!!!

In another one, I quit cause I shot down only three in the air, AI got all the others; but my final tally added 22 destroyed on the ground !!! Should have kept that one. :|

Personally, I'd go ahead and land anyways, the ai tend to take less than a quarter of the runway before turning to taxi to the parking area

Well, I know there hasn't bee a post on here for a month, but its on the front page.

Answering a post put it in front page. Now it's there again...

I don't let the AI do my landings for me, unless I cannot do otherwise. A mission is a mission till the very end... And that one was carried out till
the very end: try to belly land a Mig-15 and survive ! I did. But it was a mistake to loose my gear in the first place, when all was going so well.
The second time the mistake was to loose my flaps, tried to land anyway and did survived again.
But the Mig was ruined each time, so not a nice track record to look back at. Yes, I think the AI would have cheated and made a perfect landing;
could have preserved my record that way... hum! But you always think you can make it if you try. Hard decision to do in split seconds.
It is just the getting out of combat adrenaline thing; you fly high from success, and don't take the "wisest" choice.

Been busy everywhere on mods, posts, job, family life, travel and answering help
calls, so the way it is going : all and everything is only a question of time.

The only thing I didn't do since july, was actually fly for fun... I keep doing take off and landings for testing maps...
Sometimes when one of those tests fails, you just leave it for another day to try again.
Otherwise it becomes very tedious work to persist. A little one day project (modding) has been going on for two months...
Doing minute corrections and fine tuning, the changes are sometimes very small, but testing for the results requires a lot more... time.
Dam ! That was three months ??? Almost. The project was a small july 23 map change. Lot bigger now.
I'll be back... in a couple of months I guess... Arrow
