Changing stock map 'types' to "Summer" or "Desert"
#1

Hi,

This should not be too hard to solve - but I dont know how to do it

I want to change a particular map from stock il-2 1946, - to read 'Desert' instead of 'Summer' and change my Aircraft skins accordingly.

For example the MTO (desert map). It is currently set to "Desert" and all planes by default change into a desert camouflage..

What file do I edit to change this particular map to "Summer" so all planes get a regular green camo..
(and the other way around - changing a summer (green) map to have a "Desert" designation?

There's got to be a file that you can edit.

* I have the skin mod and everything - Its not the skins of the planes I want to change but the map type (Summer / Desert) that changes the skins itself.
hope this clarifies a bit

Many thanks in advance. - If you need clarification or the reason I want to do this - I will explain further

... you only need to open the load.ini of the map and then change line CAMOUFLAGE= into either SUMMER or WINTER like this :

CAMOUFLAGE=SUMMER

CAMOUFLAGE=WINTER

This will change the camo of static planes, but of course not the land textures

Just like FZ said.
In case of setting skins to desert camo change the line in the load.ini into: CAMOUFLAGE = desert

but where is the load.ini file of a particular stock game map?

For example stock: New Guinea, Tarawa, Palau, Okinawa, Kyushu... etc maps

If I remember correctly you will need the .sfs extractor tool to open and look at the .sfs files (the stock maps are there). Copy the files and place it into the map mods folder then change the camouflage as the previous posters have stated. I did that for the Burma and New Guinea Maps. If I can remember which .sfs file contains the stock maps I will post it here.

OR instead of using the SFS extractor, a simpler way would be to get vpmedia's modded stock maps. I'm not sure where to find the download but it's probably in the MODS Download section.

Vpmedia's maps download has only the load.ini files for the stock maps and his load changes the textures for the maps.

All you'd have to do is edit the CAMOUFLAGE line in those LOAD files.
