IL-2 Guide for Computers, Benchmarking, Optimizing, Tweaking

So the problem came back with the horizontal tearing.....so I would've pulled my hair out if I had any...I was forced back to the drawing board and researching forums.

In some random post someone mentioned to check your monitor cable....I did and changed it to dvi....some tearing still occurs...wtflip

it went away and then came back??? at wits end...I went all the way back to no changes in the control panel, and still tearing:

Fixed for now: Reseated my SLI bridge and switched the dvi monitor cord over...problem gone again...for now

Fun times....

It had to be either driver or hardware.

Hi katdog5 and Fireskull. Smile
Con su permiso Fireskull .
I've seen in your screenshot, you don't have triple buffering enabled, you should activate it.
Sometimes certain programs or processes that run with il-2, are the cause of tearing.

Hi, ton

Triple Buffering limits the lowering of the lowest FPS to some extent, but can cause more stuttering with some systems.

Use Triple Buffering only with Vertical Sync ON because Triple Buffering depends on stable 3D rendering of extensions, meaning no wide fluctuation of FPS that you would see with Vertical Sync OFF. Using Vertical Sync ON and Triple Buffering ON should help stabilize graphics processing for many systems. Try it and see.

I'm going with driver...Im just glad to be alive to tweak another day...

Hi Fireskull.

I want to change my ATI 3dclub HD 4870 512MB OC edition graphic card with AMD ASUS HD 6870 1GB. It will be any increase in performance becouse of more the graphic RAM ?

This is the question for Il-2 sim. Not for Il-2 Battle for Britain.

Rest specs.

AMD Phenom II x4 955BE
Asus Crosshair III formula
RAM PATRIOT BE 1600Mhz cl 7 8GB

rgr.

Hi, merlin1 and welcome to our website. Smile

The upgrade in RAM will help you when there are many objects on a large map, so - yes - it will help you with extreme missions on extreme maps. Other than that, the extra RAM will see no large difference.

As for the Graphics Card upgrade, yes - there will be a substantial improvement, but only if the card is fully compatible with your other components. This has as much to do with newer graphics card drivers as it does with the hardware because of the OpenGL 4.0 or higher extensions that you will be getting.

Let us know after you get the new card and we will help you get the most from it.

Katdog5,

I thinks that plenty of time has passed. How is your system and IL-2 running lately? Let's look into this in more detail.

Its running great.....it appears that one of my issues was a bad card. Amazon is awesome and sent me a replacement the next day. Free shipping on the return too. Big Grin

I'm running a flat 60fps at all times on almost all the new maps. It sure is awesome. Although I have 2 460s SLI, I have 1 card forced for now.

However, I still have issues with the great tc_hawaii map. Now Im not sure if its processor bottleneck or what,(I have a i930 @ 2.8Ghz) but I cant seem to kill this map with just 40 or so planes on it.

Sure, I'll get 50-60 fps most of the time, but I'll go as low as 19 and dip to 25-30 when flying over the populated harbor (not much action is going on either) ...Id like to get a solid 60 fps going over the harbor with "poor" setting (more clouds and slight fog) ...then I would be blown away. Im not there yet, nor do I know its possible. All the other maps are just running awesome, with fraps too.

I know I was able to really knock it out the park with advanced tweaking using nvidia Inspector, but I ran into an issue that caused cockpit tearing when fps got too high....not sure if it was card related or driver related or what.....Since I'm running everything solid besides that map, I'm just enjoying for now.....but you would think 2 460s, or even 1 could run tc_hawaii at a flat 60 fps EASILY....right?!

Katdog,

The author of the Hawaii map might be able to help or he might need your experience with his map. On the other hand, there is an amazing number of objects in the Pearl Harbor area.

Please post your FPS drop in his thread:

Let me know if anything changes. Maybe we have some another issue to discover. Did you ask Global Moderator Jinxx to help? Send a PM to him.

No I haven't, Thanks again for the advice. I'll try your suggestions. I also just noticed I have major fps drop on Truk when I look towards the 10-12 or so ships we have in the mission, plus 20 planes and aa...it gets to the low 20s....its playable, but I don't want to accept it.

I just wonder if anyone is creaming a map that has 10 ships, 20 planes, a detailed harbor with aa action, etc etc. Anyone? Is it even possible in OpenGL? I'll start with your suggestions Thanks!

Katdog5,

I think that you should be getting better FPS, but not sure. AAA, for example, simulates the firing of thousands of rounds. When this is intense, then FPS drop will happen to people with the best system in extreme cases.

Why not start a survey type thread in General Discussions forum to ask about these FPS sink holes?

Ok, I could do that, however I dont think AAA in the main problem because in my tc_hawaii scenario, there is very little to no aaa over the harbor. (also Ive been ok in intense aaa battles in some cases) However, when 20 or so planes come in to interact with 15+ ships and the I look towrd the ships and that's when the huge fps occurs = The fps occurs when I look toward the ships...When I look away from the ships, it jumps back to 60fps. Also to note, that I test offline in the editor and online coop....WIP

Heres the new post. Thanks http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/...22#p343522

Stuttering and me.

Hi Fireskull. Smile
I recently have purchased a new processor, before I had: Intel Core 2 Duo E6550, 4M Cache, 2.33 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB.
Now I have: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, 6M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB.
My current System is:
MS Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3.
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3GHz.
Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L.
4.0GB DDR2 @ PC2-6400 800MHz (6-6-6-18) Dual Channel.
Gigabyte GeForce GTS 250 1024MB 16X PCI Expres.

With the new processor, the problems have started . Sad
In the outside view occur ministuttering.
I have changed all the values in nHnces, and I don't get solution.
Also I have modified the values of conf. ini file.
I have found the solution, before I had: ProcessAffinityMask=3,
I've changed to work only the second core, now I have: ProcessAffinityMask = 2,
and stuttering problems are gone. Big Grin

Thanks and Merry Christmas. [Image: papanoelcontrompeta2.gif]

ton414,

That is very good. Yes: processaffinitymask=2 gives you processing in the second core of the processor, which is what most dual core users should have.
