I have a question for everyone....

Well I know its a game and nobody's gonna come get me, but I asked this question wrong. If I know I truly did shoot an Ai getting out of his plane or while he's in his chute on accident I don't feel bad but if its intentional its only usually because it's someone on my side who I shot down for stealing my kills. That's the only thing that makes me mad and I feel kinda bad about it, but when it used to actually happen in real life man that's messed up! I know every side had some do it but the ones who encouraged their men to do it err that really gets me that's when Ill play il2 and pick the Japanese to fight or the Russians, Just so when they have to bail out they get sprayed that's the only time I have no feelings of remorse, but its only like that when I'm against those two armies because in reality I know how much their pilots would shoot people hanging in their chutes so why not help even out the score?

A righteous person would not shoot a guy in a parachute. However, if you saw some nazi poking your guys in chutes, then you'd get that guy in his chute.

I hate the Ai's and now with ultra pack the enemies are harder to knock out of the sky but yes war is a mofo ha oh yeah never run into hanging chutes with your plane i tried this once to see what happens bad Idea especially at low altiudes the chute will shear off a wing vertical or horizontal stabilizer

I just watched a History channel documentary where a Japanese pilot bailed out and the American said:

"Is it ours or theirs?"
And his co pilot said, "Theirs, good, you can get some target practice."
And so the other pilot immediately proceeded to shoot him out of his chute.

It's still wrong but the japanese would always and I mean always make it a point to kill our pilots hanging in their chutes every single side in this war had some do it and its still wrong but the US really looked down upon it only a few fighter groups did not and the English you never really heard of any incidents because they also looked down heavily upon this act but I'm sure there are some incidents and the Russians were like the Japanese making it a point to shoot German pilots in their chutes and the Germans did it alot but not as bad as the Japanese the Russians and the Polish those three were the very worst I know this is hypocritical to say but our pilots shooting the japs in their chutes I'm fine with they attacked pearl harbor because we put a trade embargo upon them and they got pissed that among other reasons and then the kamikaze's they were suicidal so I think with how they thought back then they would probably see it as an honor to be blasted away rather then be stuck to rot in pow camps

Soviet pilots were almost always executed on the spot if they were captured by the Germans, so if they weren't killed in their chutes, they were killed upon landing if they bailed out over enemy territory.
The whole point of the exercise was to take the enemy pilot out of the fight so that they were no longer a threat. This was not a sport or some other sort of game.
It's perfectly OK for us to set rules for what is a game to us, but making moral judgments about such behavior of more than 60 years ago? These were acts of war.
Deliberately killing civilians must certainly still be condemned even now, but that is a different matter.

Agreed! But someone tell me why the AAA blasts you out of the sky in a chute.

I also do a lot of reading on the subject, (WWII air to air combat) as I am sure many of you do as well. It is well documented that US pilots shot German pilots. This was an "Unwritten order" from the top brass. The point being that the German pilots were getting shot down and climbing right back in a new fighter. Then would proceed to try and kill American airmen. The point was to stop the Nazi regime and cripple its ability to continue the war. Same for the Japanese. War brings out the worst in us.

BTW I am just finishing "Luftwaffe Fight Ace" by Norbert Hannig. Great book, lots of descriptive training and combat actions. A highly recommended read for IL-2 players.

I was in a coop one evening, flying a BoB mission in a 109, and was RTB. Only one enemy plane remained, and being AI, it was stupid enough to go and chase some German planes back across the Channel to our base. I was out of cannon rounds and low on mg rounds, and figured the AI would get to it first, so I decided to land. While I was coming around on final approach the Spit took a direct flak hit and the pilot bailed.
Right after touching down a friend on TS told me the chute was at my 10 o'clock - I slowed to a stop, held brakes, full left rudder, a little throttle.... he was directly in front of me, and seemed the right height. Waaaaaaaaay too tempting!
Boy what a shot, one quick burst and he was dead, another burst and it was a fast ride down to the ground. Just luck, but as I said the temptation was too great and it is, afterall, just a game.

Hi,

In real life, there were always some pilots who refused to kill pilots in parachutes, even some aces on the Axis side. My impression is that the more successful the pilot, the less likely he would be to approve of such a thing, in historical terms. To me it would seem that those who strive for being better in every area would be the least likely to do such a thing in real life.

Confusedhock: Personally, it is very appalling to me to even think of such an act. Confusedhock:

As for IL-2, I think most pilots have done it as newbies just to see what happens.
