South Vietnam WIP

Thanx mission_bug Big Grin

XLO-JOKER...........OUT..............

IMHO this map has strong potential. I like it..maybe would prefer a bit more diversity amongst huge forest tiles or a bit more jungle-tree forest style, but this map and its flair and topography are very unique.
Some checkflight shots..disregard skin showing double markings-my mistake.

The weather was hazy, so the terrain will look clearer in other settings-I found hazy fitted well to a first Vietnam checkflight.
Thank you very much for sharing your work, Mission_bug! Thankful to fly there Big Grin

Cheers

Tom

PS: I also liked the modern runway look of the bases I flew over.. Big Grin

Cheers

Glad to see you're enjoying flying the map TomFF. The forests are still WIP, the wood effect has been used overall just to cover everything until I get around to adding textures to break things up a bit and give it more variety. For now the detailing has mainly been around the airfields but will change. There are currently no tga's in the sim that actually portray asian forests so we are stuck with the European ones.

The airfields at Tan Son Nhut, Nha Trang and the seaplane base at Cat Lai are actually based on Photographs, the others are place holders until I find some photographic information that allows me to finish them as they really were.

Sorry can't find the photo of Nha Trang. Sad

A bit late from my end, but thanks for sharing those images!
Will fly there tonight.. Big Grin

Hello all, it's been some time since I posted an update on this project so here goes just to show it is continueing as and when time permits.

Anatoli has been busy again detailing the map. He has information that deals with French military fortified camps within South Vietnam during the colonial period and has added three of these to the map as detailed in the information he has available.

Near Kratie airfield.

Near to Gia Nghla.

And finally near Tourane (Da Nang).

Thank you very much Anatoli, you continue to motivate and inspire me with this project.

I've also been doing a bit myself.

A road network now links most of the key settlements that appear on the map.

The red lines show roughly where these are, although I've not yet added the positions on the ed map. That will be done once all are finished.

I've also finally made an attempt at the City of Hue. It isn't exactly where it should be due to the rather simplified way I made the map to allow the navigable rivers. But at least it is there now.

It utilises the walls of I think Caen castle, the road network inside the city has been added but as yet no buildings. A texture is being used at the moment to represent those.

Fabianfred's canal objects and Delvpier bridges add further details, the bridges as you know are un-usable though.

I've changed the colour of the texture around the airfields now to a more Browny tint and also removed the wood effect from a particular area of the map because it interfered with one of the missions in Cracken's campaign.

An update of the map will be uploaded soon after I've done a little tidying up of a few things.

Hi there,

Thanks for the Map....!!!

I can' t save mission on your Map...sooo bad...Maybe a lack of objects...

any list of the objects I need for this Map?????

Thanks bye bye
JIM

Hello JIM, sorry to here your having problems. A mission not saving is generally down to an object not being there, but if you are using UP 2 there should not be a problem. I can save both in UP and my modded 4.10.
If you load the map and press the Shift and Tab keys you should get text on your screen, at the bottom it usually tells you if there are any problem items, try that and let me know what you get.

The map uses nothing unusual.

Fabianfred's objects
Cannon's French objects
KevinP's roads
Delvpier bridges
hanger Mods 1+2.

If you have a fully working version of the latest Cannon channel map and the Thailand map and you can save missions on those then I can't see why you are having problems.

If you are using it in 4.10 modded there may be some differences in the mod packs because you would have had to install these yourself.

ok thanks for the answer...I have the both MAP (Thailand and Channel)on a 409m...everything fine...so...

I check and I tell u....

bye
JIM

hey guys, i just have one suggestion for the project, if it is possible, could we have radios that play vietnam era rock? for example, on the radio channels, there would be an option for music, and one of the options would be fortunate son by CCR, it would be a command that didn't do anything in the actual game, but instead of a response from a co-pilot, the song would play. im only suggesting this because it would make the whole game feel more... complete...

Hi,

may I do a suggestion: there is a better representation of the walls of HUE than the medieval walls currently in use - the fortifications of the 17th and 18th century as seen in Kronstadt and other places. Hue was actually fortified in the early 19th century so these fortress walls look much better imho.

cheers
sinzov

Hello sinzov, the reason I used the ones i did was the size and shape which seemed the best dimensionally and in shape in the FMB objects to what I could make of the city layout using Google maps. Addmitedly they aren't quite what I'd like but short of having new objects that is what I settled for.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Big Grin
