Couple of COD questions
#1

Hi

I've just bought COD, managed to install it, and faced some issues which are more complex than "OMG, it's laggy". If the mods don't mind, I would like to ask a couple of technical questions about the sim. (I'm not registered at the banana forum, only here)

1) It runs on medium graphics, with 1440x900 resolution, and I have decent framerates dispite my rig is 2 years old. (20-30 over land, 30-40 over sea, depending on altitude, plane count, etc) But I keep getting ctd-s out of nowhere. (no fps drop, before crash) Any advice what graphic option should I tone down further?

2) Sometimes I can see only a transparent model of the a/c (especially with spitfires) I'm sure this is because my low system specs, but once again what should I tone down to see those spitfires?

3) There are black lines which go through land and see. They cover great distances and form rectangles, like some borders between map-pieces. Any idea how to get rid of them? They only appear in wide view, zooming makes them vanish.

4) The texture quality is set High, but ground textures still look awful. However grass is switched off. Is this normal?

+1) I really would like to learn the complex engine management of COD, but there's no word about it in the training missions. Does anyone know some training material for it?

System specs
Win XP, DX 9
Intel Dual Core 2,93 Ghz
4 GB RAM
ATI 4850 1GB RAM

yes i also had ctd when i brought it new. to prevent this go into steam and verify the games cache and if all the files have not been downloaded the next time you log onto steam it should just download the game again or update the game or if installing from disk try re-installing. i am sure that the black lines are caused by a bug. (i have the same problem in the tiger moth). the 'high' setting is not the best and will downgrade the texture slightly whereas the original setting keeps the maximun textures at the cost of 2-3 fps over water and 5-9 over land. looking at your sys. spec. i dont think you couldnt run the grass option at that resolution as CPU wont be able to load it fast enough.

my advice to you is to run the game at Resolution - 1240x720
Buildings - very low/low
Model Detail - high
Forest - low/medium
Land detail - medium/high
Land shading - high
Grass - on
Shadows - off
SSAO - on
Texture quality - high/original
Buildings amount - very low/low

WN_Barbarosso, whats your game version and did you patched it already ?

The game has a lot of bugs and there are already several patches , tomorrow there wil be a new official patch,
the last official patch did wonders for my comp and reading posts at 1C i wasn't the only one,

Currently i'm using the last beta patch v 100.14214, it didnt do much for me so i cross my fingers for tomorrows patch

Thx, I'll give it a try tomorrow. I found the answer for my 3rd question scrolling the 1C Forums, they said land detail set low and/or 8x anisotropic filter solves the problem.
I changed my settings, now the black lines are gone, but the rivers look wierd, like blue squares in a row... Guess I need more time to optimise the game.

I think I use the same version, it's the last official patch I could get via Steam.

Now every cockpit became semitransparent, cute little clouds are flying inside the cockpit and I can see the engine turning right through the instrument panel...

Help! Sad

That is probably just a bug. To get it fixed you can put it up on 1C forums and im sure they will look into it, but for now its just gonna have to be.

Enjoy the game as it is and im sure it will get better as the months roll on.

But just incase what are your settings? i have never had the problem described.

Um I think that is actually a feature if I remember, semi transparent cockpits so that you can see the enemy if they dive under you or you overshoot them, not sure if it is, screen shots?

i think you could be correct heinkel. it might be something in the realism menu try turning to max realism and see if this helps

if that doesnt sort it, this is most deffinately a bug

Cockpit clouds gone - I think the latest ATI driver caused the problem, I reverted to an older version and cockpits are fine again. Big Grin
