I think it was Edgar Schmued, but I not too sure... I know he designed the plane its self...

Yes he did designed the P-51 plane but not the cowl :wink:

I thought that the cowling was by a foreign designer. Am I getting warm?

Nope sorry. :wink:
I will give you another clue, he was born in 1899 and died in 1949
and the P-51 cowl was one of his last designes.

I know George Stainforth (first man in the world to exceed 400 miles per hour) was born in 1899 but he died in 1942...
