I highly recommend you give the mods a try, as I feel confident they will increase your enjoyment of the sim. Before these mods hit the street, I was just about ready to "throw in the towel", as I really felt the sim had run its course.
IMHO the AI flyables are very well done, and will allow you to build some truely awesome, new COOPs.
