There are multiple versions of the PBY, as it is common with almost every plane to update or adapt it.

It's true, there were Catalina-Versions which had a normal gear and amphibian qualities as well as there are version which were only amphibian (cheaper& lighter). Just google a bit for PBY Catalina and PBN Nomad...
