Whats the first image that pops into someone's head when you say P-51 Mustang?
The bubble top D model right? People often forget this but the Mustang that did most of the work in Europe was the razorback B's and C's. These could easily hold their own against the 109's and 190's they were facing in 1943-1944.
The D was much heavier than the other models. Heavier means bigger wing loading, and thus makes your turn rate suffer.
