HOS 'should' see the external drives, but I'm not sure if you can put an OS on them.
Personally, I don't have AV on my IL2 OS. I guess that would depend on how 'safe' you want to feel.
To be honest, I don't have AV on ANY of my systems. I do use Windows Defender for ad/spyware, but that's all. I am careful with opening attachments in emails, and won't open one from someone I'm not expecting one from. I don't use outlook or outlook express for email either. Also, I'm not prone to going to the "Outer East Slobovian dwarf transvestite porn" sites either.
