I have said my piece anyway. I will still use a modded version of 4.08 offline, and unmodded 4.09 online.Others will do what they want and its certainly not my place to tell them anything different.
Well, I've definitely seen some things that are different on the servers I fly on. Like, TBFs flying off of carriers, B-17s and B-24s making bombing runs on Pacific islands, A5M Clauds escorting Sallys on bombing missions over the Burma road and Hawk 75s intercepting them! I have even seen a PBY (PBN) making a bombing run on a ship in the Pacific!!
I just don't understand what the difference is between 4.08 and 4.09 as far as our being able to continue on seeing those wonderful things. I don't understand why this is so controversial - more so than 4.08. It doesn't make any sense. Online cheating isn't going to be any more or less prevelent with the modding of 4.09 than it was with 4.08. Which brings to mind the question, where was all that cheating going on?!!! I've not read or heard about anything like the concerns that some have voiced against modding the game.
As long as the servers can exclude a modded version from joining, what is the problem? The beauty is, an un-modded version can join a mod friendly server. Why is there all this talk of splitting the community? If we end up with a modded version of 4.09 that is not compatible with an un-modded version, then THAT will be more devisive than anything! There are many swquads out there that have people in them with modded versions and people with straight versions. They are able to fly together without a problem. That will change if anything is done with 4.09 other than what was done to 4.08. It will drastically split the community - more so than it is now.
I agree, there really is no point to not modding 4.09, the problem lies in that somewhere along the line some of us modders and the anti-modders got it in our heads that the non-modders will have 4.09 to themselves. Thinking back on it I don't really know where this idea came from. The other problem is that it is not true that non-mod servers can keep mods out. Crt=2 does not work in most cases, and this is actually a problem, they should be able to keep mods out if they wish to. Unfortunately, with attitudes the way they are even if all the mods at AAA were redone to prevent passing crt=2 it still wouldn't help to ease the tentions, none of the anti-modders would beleive it or trust it. And it is true that AAA is not the end-all be-all of modding, we're just to blame, lol.
