Yes it can be done the same way, in fact the little file for the US stars is part of such a mod I've been putting together...just need a little more time to complete.

I had been using IL2 Mat manager to turn of all the roundels/stars and unit emblems but it's a bit heavy for that now we can mod things from the other end so to speak.

I like to use default skins with the correct roundels/stars on them but no numbers/codes, that way making use of the fairly innovative auto numbering.

You say you want all the stars and numbers removed, I'm doing everything but the numbers, if you want to know how to do it send me a pm.
