The fmd or emd data? As a changelog so it's clear what was changed. Say the same engine type is also used by a plane not yet in the game, but someone works to add it. It might have different extinguisher shots. So they make the new plane, stick the engine in, but are unaware that the emd file they point to has a changed extinguisher value.

If it is hidden, then everyone who wants to work on such files must examine all of them, including mods, all the time. A changelog makes more sense.
