ED (Eagle Dynamics, creators of LOCK ON) are working with modders in improving their current game and in producing features to the new DCS Black Shark (still to be released). ED had released tools for someone to convert 3D shapes with animations. Their tool is a 3ds max exporter... plain and simple.

The relation between ED and the Modding community is clearly different than the one Maddox Games started with the IL-2 series. I am sure Oleg had change his mind since then and for SoW will be different story... till then...

The last "creation" of the modders community (from the group called SIM MOD team) is the new model for the A-10a Warthog, which brings the old obsolete model to the level of the Su-25T in details, has new skinning system and damage representation etc.

However modding for Lock On doesn't seems very easy when you look at details. The animations are made by an arguments system that looks different (from 5k altitude, my point of view Smile ), the integration in the game includes some "xml" scripting that fries "my fragile little mind" if I stay too much on it and probably many hidden dangers that I couldn't see from the "public point of view".

My impression is they can't come together (the two games).

PS A french dedicated mod team (heh, they are every where these talented french guys) had made an ADA mod which enables to fly french planes (some new) in Lock On, similar to what the IL-2 modder did at the beginning but, with some heavy modification to the default cockpits.
