Spitfire Mk. I Small Problems
#9

Am curious as always to learn more about the various aircraft modelled in il2 and the Spit Mark 1 is no exception. I find it interesting that aircraft production was never an exact science, individual variations within a given model could be at times dramatic, plus there were all the modifications and improvements introduced during production. This kind of stuff just fascinates me.

I'd like to know if I could, a little more about the kind of plane this Spit was modelled upon. Anybody want to give me a run down on the Spitfire Mark I? I know the basic stuff, the Merlin II engine and eight guns, but finer details escape me and vary in publication if mentioned at all. I have assumptions, but few enthusiasts where I live to discuss them with.

So what is the Mark I Spit's story. Two bladed fixed pitch props at first wasn't it, then the Rotol? Later the De Havilland? Self sealing tanks introduced...the Mark II? Reflector gun sights...autumn 1940?

C'mon Mr Jolly, with a signature like yours, you know you want to answer Big Grin

You need to obtain a copy of "Spitfire The History" by Eric B. Morgan and Edward Shacklady ISBN 0 946219 10 9 That will answer all your questions and more.
