V-E Day, 1945
#1

On this day, in 1945, the war ended for Europe.

Tens of millions of men, women and children perished in this conflict, the worst the world had ever seen.

Many of them were brave young men, fighting for their country, for their ideals, and most of all, for their brothers beside them.

Many of them were innocent civilians, hiding in dark shelters as bombs ripped apart their homes and families. Many starved to death, or were led to their executions by the orders of madmen.

For years that stretched on horribly, the world was gripped in violence and terror.

Many a glorious tale have come from these times, and there are many brave deeds to be remembered and admired but let us never forget the true face of war; suffering, misery, and death.

We can be glad the Allies won, and that the specter of a Hitler-gripped Nazi Germany was ended. But we must remember that most everyone that died, on all sides of this war, were not to blame for the machinations of their leaders.

Let us all take a moment and give our thoughts to those who suffered and died during these terrible times, and our thanks to the men and women that fought for us, and paid the ultimate price.
