I think I read somewhere that its superheated gas, so its plasma essentially. Either that or the bolt is from the gas and the laser shot hits instantly. Not sure which, I've read both somewhere before.

I thought it looked kind of cartoony and fake, but then I read of real accounts of tracers being such colors. The russian green tracers do look much thicker than the others, but I think that is accurate. Even in Strike Fighters/Wings over Europe(cold war) the soviet cannon tracers are thick and green.
