This has been asked for loads of times, and I too would love to see someone work on it.
So, imagine there is a bubble (invisible) around your plane.
As the outer edge of the bubble passes over the landscape, the building 'pop' into view once inside the bubble.
I guees, and I may be wrong, that the distance is the same as it is for the LOD on planes, when you see the detail 'pop' into a correct plane shape from the boxy type view?
All that is needed is for the bubble distance to be doubled, as this would make a huge difference to the immersion by getting rid of the buildings suddenly 'teleporting' into the landscape.
Seriously I would love to see the distance on building 'pop' increased, but after so many asks, I fear it is either too difficult or not important for some to look into (by that I mean those who know what to look for).
