NEW MS 406 Campaign now posted!
#1

I have now finished my new MS 406 campaign: it is a semi-historical, 10-mission static campaign, set during the spring and summer of 1942. You are a pilot in Llv 28, a Finnish fighter squadron, equipped with the Morane-Saulnier 406. The MS 406 is a bit tricky to fly, but this little beast with its hanging belly grows on you. Not least the 20mm gun is a great asset when close up. It is quite possible to down an opponent with just one well-placed shot.

The mission in this campaign are very varied: fighter sweeps, interceptions, patrols, recce, escorts. Due to the fact that the MS 406 had a 20mm gun The Finns often used it in ground attacks. (Even though such missions were not popular among the pilots.)

A number of missions are based on real missions, flown by Finnish pilots in 1942. And as in real life, you will meet a big variety of Soviet aircraft, many of them lend-lease - due to simple, geographical factors: lend-lease aircraft that came over Murmansk were often used in the north. The range of opponents are therefore big: you will meet I-153's, I-16's, SB-2's, PE-2's, IL-2's, Hurricanes, Tomahawks, even a couple of P-400's.

The area where Llv 28 was employed in 1942 was the Svir front, i.e defending the river connecting the Ladoga and Onega. As there is no map over this area, I've used the Murmansk map, which actually fits very well in this role.
